I was wondering if anyone here speaks Mandarin, hence the title. My school is planning to start a Mandarin class, which I would really really like to participate in. I think that it is a very important language to learn.

PS: What is the difference between Mandarin and Chinese? I never really understood what it is supposed to be called.

I think the Chinese language is made up of many different dialects, and one of the is Mandarin.

I speak English and a little Latin.

Yeah I think its like english and latin. Most or all words in english came from latin right. Or its probably like European french and Qeubec french, very simular but different. Different dialects, probably.

Uh...English, Latin, and Mandarin Chinese have nothing to do with each other, lol. Chinese has no roots from Latin, I think.

I don't speak Mandarin but I have spent a lot of time in China. Mandarin is one of the most common dialects spoken in China. Cantonese is another. There are, however, hundreds of different dialects from region to region. For example: Shanghai has its own dialect known as Shanghainese but almost everyone understands and speaks Mandarin as well.

Mandarin is the official language of Government. Most radio, t.v., and newspapers are in Mandarin.
