getting started with parkour???? -getting physically fit without going to the gym??????

ive always wanted to try parkour or free running but ive never been physically fit enough to be able to do it successfully, so do any of you have any ways to get physically fit without going to the gym or using things around the house.....the truth is i just dont want to bother spending money going to the gym if i can achieve the same results at home??????

      thanks....Pieman.....

You can't just go running to get into that kind of shape. You're gonna have to throw lots of anaerobics into your routine, and you'll probably have to hit the weights as well.

You can always do "pseudo-parkour" (by the way, I don't know why it's not spelled Parcours) where you just go for a run and do little things first, like throw in some random jumps and stuff. Don't go being all spiderman-like right away.

I kind of had this problem a while back, and what I did was just make little rules for myself around the house. For example, I put a pull up bar on my doorframe, and I made a rule saying that I had to do as many pull-ups as I could, every time I left or entered my room. I started out being able to do about 2, now I can do about 20. This helped my planches a lot.

If you have stairs you could make a rule saying that you have to do 5 push-ups for each step. Or if you want to improve your jump height jump up the stairs.

There are a ton of things you can do with this.

Everytime you go up and down your stair, jump as many steps as you can.

      Do push-ups. Many push-ups.

Jump. Jump around. Not neccesarily technique. Just train jumping as far as you can, as high and so. Just do it on flat-ground.
You can also do cat-walking. It's where you walk like a cat. It's easy the first 10 meters, but then it gets batshit crazy hard. Try can google "cat-walking parkour". You don't have to do it on stuff, just do it on roads. I suggest you check out, if there are any tracers (parkour people) in your area. It's nice to have some people to train and have a bit of fun with

But yeah, push-ups, pull-ups, jumping as far and as high as you can and then some basic running around. You don't have to train sprint. Just jogging.
Also, you have to press your limits, regarding this. Do as many push-ups as you can. When you feel you can't take one more, take one more. When you're running around the block, and you can't take one more turn, take one more turn.

Remember to stretch out. It's very important.

Yeah, pretty much. You can also start out big. Just make sure you don't do something dangerous.

Thread moved to The Lounge as Other Interests is now just a category, not a forum.

Wouldn't doing some lessons for gymnastics help out a lot? It'd increase you general fitness and make you more agile/flexible for parkour.

Buy free weights you can lift at home, with things you put them on. It isn't so expensive. I have only spent about 100$ on it.

      You don't need weighs

Push-ups and pull-ups is far more than enough.

Push-ups Push-ups Push-ups!!!!! The best weight to train with is your own body. Squats, push-ups,pull-up, one legged squats, hand-stand push-ups, jumping,sit-ups, etc. Theres many MANY different ways exercise without weights. I'm currently training right now to get into shape, I'm 6'1 and 240lbs. And parkour is an excellent source of training! GOOD LUCK!!

im into parkour myself with a couple of friends currently were training salta and backflips at the sea the sand on the beach blocks the fall very well and we do backflips from rocks in the water having much fun

as for training we usually go out in the evening and just run trough buildings jumping and climbing on stuff or find an object or a fence wich we do all sorts of stuff on dashes and everything

i think that a good way to enter a good physical fitness for parkour is pull ups cause i find pulling myself up to things alot while training it trains your hand muscles aswell as your back muscles a normal person should be able to do 10 full pull ups with np

its very important not to do stupid stuff i once climbed a building from the outside while trying to reach the next thing to hold on lost my balance fell from something like 7 meter height couldnt walk for 2 weeks

That's the main rule. Don't do something dangerous.

And backflips and flips in general are not parkour, that's trickery/freerunning. Parkour is entirely about getting to a place as fast as possible.

i have a question for all you tracers out there when doing a monkey vault do you jump over it with your arms still holding the bar or do you let go in mid-air????

When I do monkey-vault, I hold on, until my legs are on the other side. Aslong as possible.
