      Setting up IRC [pictures]

Here's a guide on how to set up IRC, so that we can use that, instead of the crappy Chat software. Don't get me wrong, you can use that if you want, but IRC is just way better, and is not a resource hog (performance, not money).

This guide, by the way, is made for the IRC client "mIRC".

So yeah, you begin with downloading the program. You can get it from here all free.

Now, you just install it, which I believe you can figure out yourself how to do.

Here's come all the configrational stuff, which is quite easy.

      ----
Once you boot mIRC, this window will pop up

Here you just press continue. Once your trial runs out, you'll have to wait 4 seconds, before you can press the continue button.
      ---
Now you're in mIRC, and this window should pop up

Write the following, in the fields
Full name: here you just write your first name
Email-address: here you write an email-address that works

Nickname: here you write your DreamViews name
Alternative: you can leave this field clear, though I suggest you put in atleast something.
      ---
Once you've done that, press Server in the menu on the left. That will bring you to this menu

In this case, I've marked Quakenet, which is because I used this guide on another forum aswell. Instead, you try and find EnterTheGame in all those folders (press E) and once in the ETG (EnterTheGame) folder, you click the "Random Server".

Now your IRC is set up for the ETG network, and you can access it all.
Last, but not least, you have to make your mIRC client join the #DreamViews channel autimatically. This is done by pressing the button marked by red in this picture

Now, a window should pop up. In here you press "Add", and write #DreamViews in the channel field. Check the "Join on connect" function, and press OK.

You're ready to chat, now. Hit the lightning icon in the top-left corner, and mIRC will do the rest. Press CTRL+TAB, to change which channels you're in.
If you want to customize mIRC, this is easily done, by hitting the 4 different coloured blocks on the top-toolbar. In here, you can change how different stuff i coloured, like background and all that. I'll leave you to do that.

This is by the way not an official channel, but a substitute for Kaniaz' channel, which, apparently, nobody is using, because of the disappearance of the web-IRC client Kaniaz had running on his website.

      Get chatting

True, I'm working at that. I'm considering moving it to Quakenet instead, since apparently, ETG is mainly for games. I could lie to them, and say we're some Unreal Tournament mod developing team, but that wouldn't work all too well.

Count me out. By the way, I think I'll just move it to Quakenet, instead of ETG, even though ETG is much more reliable :/

You'll find a way to sort out IRC, plus web browsing, mail and a kitchen sink in my signature.

Get over it, Merlock. I'll be keeping this sig for quite a while yet.

      Fumoffu?

Use the forum chatroom guys. IRC is less accessible for most members.

I find it offers a superior environment, though.

What Identity X said. IRC is much better, and you can't just close it by accident. It's much less of a resource hog, it doesn't make stupid sounds, and people can't make your eyes burn.

By the way, I'm moving it to Quakenet. The channel will be up soon, and I hope many will join it, so we can get an L bot.

Oh for fuck sake, I can't edit the main post. Stupid forum.

If you want to join the channel, just follow the instructions the pictures show you, instead of the ones written. That is, select Quakenet and then whatever Random Server is close to you. The SE server is the most reliable for scandinavians. I'm in the channel right now, and I have requested an L.
