Ok, so what do you think of my writing skillz? haha. Ok so, I wrote this paper off the top of my head for school on the subject of instantaneous information, good or bad, who does the responsibility rest on, gov. or people? etc. Internet, phones, t.v. etc. Instantaneous information. ---------I agree with Newton Minows statement to the N.A.B. that “the power of instantaneous sight and sound is an awesome power… with capabilities for good and evil.” However I disagree with his placing the responsibility for this power squarely in the hands of broadcasting and government. ---------Although the capabilities for good are numerous, I will discuss what I consider the three most important. ---------With instant communication from any two or more points on Earth, certain barriers that once existed are lifted. Human beings can communicate over vast expanses of land without any difficulty. Not only is it an efficient use of time, it is an efficient way of communicating as well. Before this new technology an inability to communicate was apparent between certain people who speak different languages. This division is now only slight with the arising of software based communications technology. Cultures are now assimilating between each other so that human beings may work together, which is a necessity for society to progress. Which direction we progress is not dependent on “those in charge” but rather lies on the human race as a people. We must all take action to make sure the future is a productive time. ---------As well as blurring division lines, instant information also provides instant details of important things. News, politics, science, math, any type of topic a human wishes to learn is provided somewhere in some way with the new technologies available. If you can not find it online, you can call someone who studies the subject. If there is a disease out there you should be weary about, such as recent events like the bird flu, west Nile virus, etc, you will be alerted in an amazingly short amount of time. What information is provided, yet again, is to rest on the shoulders of those seeking knowledge, not those in power or with influence. ---------Finally, the most important aspect of humanity is to be considered. Being happy and spreading happiness is one of the greatest endeavors a person can try to achieve. It is not great because it is a philosophical thing, or holy triumph, it is merely what each person strives for. With instant communication you have an unlimited amount of entertainment purposes. Various open media sources or online, ranging from online games, to online videos, and even hilarity in textual conversations. What type of entertainment, be it lewd or otherwise, is the clients’ responsibility not the government, or provider’s. ---------It is unfortunate that everyone in the world isn’t as responsible as we would like them to be. Lumping groups into responsible and irresponsible would be, well irresponsible. People are complicated creatures, and thus deserve complicated analysis. A few mediums to discuss, merely to give a bit of insight into human mind, would be misconceptions, lack of first hand experience, and what exactly it is one can find in an “unlimited resource.” ---------Misconceptions look anywhere and you will find a misconception. Let us steer the topic into an understandable subject on which we can build a general concept. Drugs and sex, without proper education of either of these two subjects are dangerous territories. Drugs are deemed by the government to be illegal, thus we attribute bad stigma to them. However, they are not morally wrong. What is it that defines allowable and bared content? Human beings define the standards. If we do not allow the information on subjects such as these, then how are we to make a logical conclusion on what is allowed and what is not? In schools students are taught abstinence hand in hand with safe sex. Would it be better to teach them only abstinence? Of course not. People will do things, regardless of what they are told to do. As I have shown, misconceptions are built up on what knowledge we are given. With an unlimited resource to knowledge, many misconceptions about the subject are made based on bias assumption, however it is still the user who must decipher what is and is not acceptable action. ---------Experience is a very important event. One can not live without experience. Why should one go out to experience a thing if he can simply learn about it via another resource? Whatever it is one does, it is his responsibility. When given options it is in the hands of the person who takes the option to do what is best, not the person providing options. That would be a dictatorship, which should not be allowed because it tramples over individual right. ---------What can one find via an unlimited resource? The answer is anything they look hard enough for. The world is in a constant shuffle because people learn things that they are better off not knowing. If you desire to build a bomb, well here are the instructions. One example of many, dangerous knowledge exists, it is why before knowledge was a common thing, knowledge was deemed as a powerful thing. What we choose to do with knowledge is what makes it good or bad. It is not the person in power to look after what the individual does to their self. We must discern between beneficial and detrimental action in our own lives. ---------Thus I have explained why easily obtainable resources are in a shady area right now. Who the power rests on is really not dependent on any one individual, it is the mass of individuals as a whole who clarify what is allowable content.
