Whats up with every Geek or Nerd wearing glasses?

Really??? Is there like an "Inteligents to Vision" Ratio going on with the human body? Is there like a study that shows for every smart cell you have you sacrifice your eye sight? Or is it that from the biggining since little your blind and you try harder in life to catch up that you end up being smarter than the rest? Or glasses just fits your personality and it so happens that your a little smarter than the others.

I'm not saying that everyone who wears glasses is smart. But, everyone who is above average in smarts would most likely need glasses.
When I dream, theres always a
little girl playing in the dirt, that
turns to me and says "Why are
you here? .... Are you blind like
      me?"

      What I've found
      What I've known
Never shined to me what I've shown
      Never be
      Never free
I wish to see what might have been...
...So I talk to you unbeliever.

No you didn't offend me, but it's fail because the theory is filled with idiocy. There is no correlation between eyesight and intelligence. I have over a 150 IQ, and have above perfect vision.

It's fail because it's stupid, yet approached as a real topic.

Well, maybe your not in an environment where you see these kinda of people on a regular basis. I'm actualy talking about people with THICK glasses. Like right out of a movie nerds kinda folk.

Anyways I'm still intrested in more feedback from others.

PS I'm not making fun of people who wear thick goofy glasses, because its really more of a medical condition. I actualy have good friends that are way beyond my intelect but I always question that every single one needs a pretty good amount of augmentation on their vision.

I am very proud to be a nerd and have never worn glasses. However, if I did they'd have to be those big, horn-rimmed, Buddy Holly glasses.

I've seen a study, though I can't find it now, relating miopia (closesightedness) to a slightly but perceptively higher IQ. Not claiming it is right though. I'll post it if I find it.

Well, the only legit correletation is stress-induced myopia due to lots of reading and such. But I agree that this thread is kind of retarded. My guess is this guy ignores stupid people with glasses and smart people without them and uses every instance of smart people with glasses to confirm his beliefs.

      . . . . . ok? I'm going to ignore that.

This thread was made for the subject of bright people like say Geeks or Nerds. (I think Dorks refer to the dumb ones). That have the common similarity of wearing glasses. I never refered to stupid people or anyone with amental ilness that requires the aid of enhanced vision.

Just refering to clever people with glasses.

Ok, here we go. Some feedback (via text) of a friend on the subject saying that they really don't care that much about their looks. They have other things to care more about and prefer their glasses rather than contacts. Unlike some people who would care more of what people actualy think of them.

      90 - 109 - Normal or average intelligence.

      I am a geek, I wear glasses.

I don't mean that I represent the group being discussed, but I know I speak for them when I say I barely study I don't think myopia is self-inflicted in that way - when it is self-inflicted, it is so small that individuals may survive without glasses. And for studying to induce myopia, you must read like 10+ hours a day.. which is quite a lot heh ^^

And wasup, for what is known, it is possible that the gene that conditions myopia also conditions a higher level of intelligence - it's not like myopia causes a higher intelligence or the opposite, but something else causing both.

That said, I agree with you when you say the OP bends the truth for it to follow his beliefs. When people have an idea in mind, they are kind of hypnotised to contradictory evidence. *cough*religion*cough*

      ----

      about IQ average:

The IQ is an extremely gaussian relation, being 100 the average. Notice, here, how IQ depends on age. Imagine a 7-year-old and a post-graduate that manage to do the same exercise -> the 7-year-old may be as smart as the post-graduate but is definitely smarter than the average for his age. If both the 7-year-old and the post-graduate scored the same number of right answers in a test, the 7-year-old would have a higher IQ.

Some authors say the brain develops until you're 26, so above 26 all ratios are supposed to be the same.

Ok, enough geekiness on IQ tests

You see what you expect because you're prepared to see it.

About 50% of the US population has myopia (source: some article I googled quickly - I thought it was more like 35% but what the heck). I would expect that within a certain age group, the majority of those who can't read a chalkboard would wear glasses. They're cheaper for parents to buy than to maintain contacts (nevermind the laser surgery).

So in any random sample of people, you can expect maybe a third of them to wear glasses. Combine that with the stereotype, and your brain will filter things in such a way as to make it feel like your theory is correct.
