      Easter

I realize i am going to sound incredibly dumb when i say this...

I never knew that americans celebrated easter!!

I know i must sound incredibly dumb not to know, but i was always fearful to put "easter holidays" in PMs to those of you who are across the pond because i thought that it was just Spring Break to you. My education of those overseas must be very bad, i can't believe i didn't know.

      So yeah, clever me

I break up tomorrow for the easter holidays i believe,

So then, what are your plans for Easter? (besides eating lots of raw eggs )

Christians around the world celebrate Easter. It isn't a state holiday, but it is a recognized holiday.

It's also the Spring equinox! Pretty close, anyway. Winter is almost over. I'm really looking forward to Spring this year.

Now I'm probably going to sound like an idiot but, does anyone know what determines what day Easter is on every year?

I BELIEVE (but may be wrong) that it is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the equinox or some such bizarre formula.

This is the earliest it has been since the 1800's.

1910, I think. I just heard that yesterday on the radio and realized I had no idea why Easter is on the day it is.

Easter = lots of chocolate bunnies. Also a reason to throw my bunny a party.

Burns, I love your siggy and avvy. On a side note, why is your name not red anymore?

Ok, this thread is about Easter - start something new for anything else.

Happy Easter to those who celebrate it, and have a happy Vernal Equinox to the rest of you! Despite what it evolved from, Christians have the right to believe their view on Easter, just like everyone else has the right to believe their own views. The way see it, stop with the conflicts and enjoy a holiday together! I mean, CHOCOLATE! Awesome.

The egg thing, I believe, is an old pagan tradition, decorating egg shells and hanging them on trees - a fertility thing, but I personally think it's fun to do because it's preeeetty.

OMG - Reese's Eggs are AWESOME!!!

Thankyou for being on topic Mitzie

Right guys, i think whats been said about Burns and pj has been said, there is no need to continue it on in a thread which has no relevance to the particular topic in this thread alright.

So just stay on topic instead of continuing this pointless conversation, whats done has been done, deal with it, or discuss it somewhere else.

The thread is called "Easter," as in the month of the old Germanic calendar named for the goddess Eostre. In Britain and the US, nearly everyone observes the fertility rites (eggs, bunnies, fake grass) while only some observe any Christian ritual, and only Catholics significantly celebrate events specific to the Christ story (as opposed to your basic sun-god resurrection). I'm not pointing it out to be argumentative or poo-poo Christian traditions, but because we all in the northern hemisphere have common reason to celebrate--bunnies, eggs and grass will be more abundant quite shortly, which has consistently lifted spirits for more than just a couple thousand years.

      Happy Easter

I don't celebrate Easter as the Christians do, I celebrate Reese's Eggs as a holiday of their own.
