      Last Samurai

      Anyone seen it?

I honestly didnt expect much, I mean I hoped it would be good..
Being I have always had an affinity to feudal era Japan.

      I was blown away...

The movie covered all the emotions, it had me thinking mostly, but also on the edge of my seat, laughing and even teary eyed. (im a wuss =P least I admit it.)

      The landscapes were beautiful!!!!

many philosophical undertones, alot of them I felt common to myself.
Amazing action, nothing like sword and naginata fights!

      And NINJAS!

And... this kind of disturbed me...
A while ago I posted about a dream I had in which I was sucked underwater and thrown into another me, I was me, but Evan was gone.
It was a battle field, and I was in my armour, the enemy I fought had a clawed gauntlet in one hand and a short sword in the other.

The ninja in the last samurai were wielding the same gauntlets, I had never seen it before except in my dream, it kinda shocked me...It could have been a coincidence... but I am more and more starting to think otherwise.

Anywhoo, if anyones seen it I would love to talk bout the movie and what you thought.

      Beautiful Landscape.

I saw the movie and I loved it. Too bad I was intoxicated at the first 30 minutes cause I was too distracted to watch it. Those junior mints sure were good.. Anyways.. I loved the way that they portray the Samuri's life. They were oh so kind to one another and it was an honor to learn from your elders. The landscape and village setting was also gorgeous (sp?). It was all I expected and more. Kudos to those who created it..

The samurai werent all kindly though...

Being that they were separate from the pesant class and higher ranking, many were arrogant men, and if they were crossed would kill a peasant withought thought.

Some had their swords tested, on live people, prisoners usualy, they would line them up and see how many they could cut through...No I am not kidding, they portrayed the strength and sharpness correctly in the movie, a well made sword could cut through rifle barrels, so think what they could do to people.

I saw the movie last night. I absolutly loved it. The scenery and emotions were great. Some scenes a little far fetched.....but what movies these days arent. But I loved the village. It made me want to live there. The artistry was great.

I enjoyed the movie a great deal. I saw it with my fiance last (insert day of the week here). She didn't really like it but she at least attempted to feign interest for my sake. While I did enjoy the movie, it didn't quite do for me what "The Seven Samurai" did for me a couple months ago. It was made in 1954, is entirely in Japanese with English subtitles, and is about 3 hours and 28 minutes long. Truly a classic. I recommend it to anyone who "The Last Samurai" and/or feudal era Japan.

"The Seven Samurai" is probably one of the most influential action films I've ever seen in my life. I'd say that it and along with, perhaps, "The Hidden Fortress" (1960) created the genre. Plus, "The Seven Samurai" was so beautifully shot. And remember, it was a lot harder for them to do it beautifully than for the crew of "The Last Samurai". This age of computer effects and digital recording makes things so much easier for a crew to produce quality than the guys who had to use such magic to create masterpieces in those bygone days.
