Have you and your friends ever piled into a car?

I know I have, and i know I'll never do it again.
I will not ride in a car that won't allow me to have my seat belt on.

Friday June 5th was the last day of school here in Jacksonville, Florida.
A bunch of kids from the school I went to for awhile before I quit, planned on skipping the last day for a celebration at the beach. 9 teenagers were packed into one vehicle. Only the driver was wearing a seat belt. The vehicle's left rear tire separated, causing the vehicle to flip over several times. Besides the driver, the 8 other passengers were all ejected. 3 are dead, 5 are still in the hospital in critical condition.

I went to elementary school with the girl who was in the front passengers seat.
      I knew her.

Always put on your seat belts.
      They say life's about choices;
In the face of defeat, I decline.

If the car flipped, are you sure seat belts really would have helped?

Absolutely. They keep people from falling out of the car. My first friend who died fell out of a rolling truck, and the truck smashed his head. If he had been wearing a seatbelt, he would have survived and been fine like everybody else in the truck.

Why people don't wear seatbelts is beyond me. I have been in some horrific wrecks, and my seatbelt saved my ass every time.
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?

Yeah, it's pretty idiotic when people don't put seat belts on. Really, it takes like 2 seconds. If you think it makes you look cool, then obviously if you need to not wear a seat belt to look cool, you aren't cool at all.

I still think seat belts should not be enforced by law.

This reminds me of a wreak that happened in my home town. One of my former teachers son died, and my friends sister died in the same crash. No direct relations to me, but it was still terrible. Basically the same reason for the crash, teenage kids not being responsible in a vehicle. They think cars are perfectly safe because they've been driving with their parents all their lives.

Out of curiosity, why? I know there are times when seat belts have the potential to be harmful, but the ratio of safe to unsafe would still greatly favor the safe side of seat belts. It just seems stupid not to wear one.

I know my friends and I use to pile into cars all the time stuffing them full. I never liked doing it and I always would think about what would happen if we had crashed. I'm sure glad I don't do foolish things like that anymore. This is a really big incentive not to.

It is stupid not to wear one, but enforcing it as a law is stupider. It should be up to the driver and passengers. Why should I be fined for not wearing a seat belt? It's not a matter of it being safer, its a matter of making your own choices. Just like choosing to wear your blue shorts over your black ones.

This is how they slowly infringe on our rights, just taking little steps and then boom, we're living in a police state.

I don't agree with the law either, but I definitely think it does more good than harm.

Because, if you haven't noticed, people are stupid and lazy. They will do it cause they don't want a ticket and figure that IT'S ALWAYS THE OTHER GUY that gets into an accident and never them.

That is a bit of a generalization, but a hell of a lot more people would wear them if they were enforced by law as compared to if there was no law.

I wouldn't even allow them to get a ride if I were the one driving Not only will it hurt them in a car crash, but it'll also hurt the passengers sitting in the front even if they're wearing seatbelts, because there's a potential they will be thrown right into the front passengers. Besides that, here in Denmark atleast, I think it's the drivers responsibility that everyone is using their seatbelts... I got my drivers license around 2 months ago, so I really should know But oh well.

In Denmark you get a ticket too not for wearing seatbelt. Blackjack might be generalizing, but it does hold some truth If it was not enforced by law far more people would die in car accidents due to not wearing seatbelts. Kinda bizzare that people put the worry of a ticket before their own life o_0 But that's how it is.

Makes me rethink a couple years ago in highschool when 11 of us piled in a van a couple times, with only a few wearing seatbelts, thought it was fun at the time, this kinda makes me realize how stupid it was..
