My Letter to David Letterman

Dear Stupid Human Tricks Coordinating Team and Late Show Staff, My name is Trevor Phillips. I would like to perform a unique trick that I learned over about the course of the year. My ability is that I am able to hand whistle, or “Lune Call,” the hymn Amazing Grace, completely on key. If you’ve never witnessed someone hand whistling (which is unlikely!), it is quite a unique sound. I put my two hands together in a cup and align my thumbs. Then, I blow on the knuckle of my thumbs, creating a low, hollow, windy sound. Most people who are only able to create some pitch or sound on while hand whistling and fluctuate their pitch randomly by opening their hand. However, with lots and lots of practice (lots and lots and lots!), you can slowly begin to create tunes and melodies. By subtly fluctuating the power of your breath and the shape of your hands, you can play almost any song that comes to mind! I first learned when a French exchange student living with my family, showed me how. From there I became obsessed with it. I thought it was amazing, but apparently it was driving everyone else crazy. After I had mastered the basic sound, I moved on to changing pitch and making melodies. I had a complete obsession! I would around school with my hands glued to my mouth. I would be caught doing it during basketball games, on the soccer field, and just about everywhere. Eventually my mom had to put chile pepper sauce on my thumbs to keep me from doing it! But all of it was worth it for my unique skill. It’s pretty useful at entertaining people. When my friends have convinced me into performing in public places, I’ve received money (one dollar bills!) from people passing by and watching to stop. Once while performing the trick by a concession stand, the man in the stand gave me a free hot dog! That was pretty cool. In Mr. Letterman’s earlier years, David Letterman was a guest host on “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson,” when he hosted the talented hand whistler Ben Brenner, for an interview and performance, to which the audience gave great approval! I’m making great tunes on my hands, plus I’m only fourteen years old! Enclosed in the package is a DVD of me performing Amazing Grace, five times in a row, just to show I am able to perform it on with the same quality every time I perform the trick. ohh well... and no it's not a joke... I really want to, and think I can get on the show! I'll post the video here once I make it and put it on the computer. you've got the power! im just wondering: are u thinking of beeing a guest, sitting in a chair next to mr letterman himself, or are u thinking of being one of those in the audience that show of their skillz sometimes in the show? and yea, if u get there do some marketing for lucid dreaming! are there any better way to spread the word? maybe you could mix in the words lucid dreaming into your song? that would be cool....
