Ancient Mayans Likely had Running water.(Toilets/fountains..)

This was that cult, and the prisoners said it had always existed and always would exist, hidden in distant wastes and dark places all over the world until the time when the great priest Cthulhu, from his dark house in the mighty city of R'lyeh under the waters, should rise and bring the earth again beneath his sway.

Wow, those guys were advanced. Yet more evidence that they may have even gotten to the level of extremely advanced hypermathematics and hyperphysics at which they could control the whole of reality with their minds alone and ascended to beings of pure consciousness.

Hmm.... Not sure why you would say that... I guess I am sure why... but really?

      Sarcasm, sorry.

It's a vaguely interesting piece of history but not anything for extended discussion as far as I can see.

For a great read on just how close Meso-American peoples might have been to catching up with Europe, check out Orson Scott Card's novel Pastwatch: The Redemption of Christopher Columbus. It's also quite time-bendy

If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

Yar, moved to lounge. There's no main point that can really be debated or
discussed at great length here, unless, DC, you include something more in your
      opening post.

Meant to post this in the science/math section anyway.

More or less just wanted to share something interesting.

Funnily enough, I was just last night reading Clive Cussler's Inca Gold. It is about a hunt for Pre-Columbian Chacapoyan treasure in South America. Lots of interesting facts in there, despite it being fiction.

I love that coined term, "hydroarchaeology."

Well... depends on how you look at it. If you figure the word was/had been better if it was more like the 1200s, then sure.

Umm life in Europe wasn't any better than anywhere else.. ..... May have been worse if you talk about disease.... In the 1200's...

In general the world has gotten better, but do you not understand how many countries from Europe controlled and claimed land as their own? How many peoples lands were taken, leaders murdered, slaves sold.. These countries may have had problems before we arrived, but we did nothing but compound them... and Europe in general was a constant war between countries, with only tides of diseases to pass the time....

And our arrival on many lands caused the death of many, either by murder or disease.. The lands now may be in better shape, but I highly doubt the original people that inhabited those lands wanted to be murdered or die of European illness. So if in the end, the betterment of European people and their ancestors is all that matters to you than... you are correct.

Most of Africa still hasn't really recovered.. and the list gets pretty big... in conquering...

Only now are things start to get a little bit better.

Yeah, that was what I was getting at. But if you're thinking about the black death, that wasn't until the 13-hundreds.

Ah, the colony takings... That had kinda slipped my mind. You're right, we fucked things up bad. But hey, it hasn't come back to bite us in the arse yet, eh?

It is kinda funny how superior European countries can be when offering help to those parts of the world, though.

You can't really blame them much for the diseases, they didn't know better.

Partly.. but we are talking about the past in general... The times when Europeans started traversing the globe on a conquering spree.. Black death is just the most famous... their were many more diseases

Give it some time! And the people living in those countries are the ones that suffered.. not us European ancestored.

You can't really blame them much for the diseases, they didn't know better.

They could have stayed home? Or waited till disease wasn't such a huge problem.

If the Mayans were still around, they'd replace the Chinese at the top of the learning curve (Aren't stereotypes fun?)

      Well poop.

I was all set to point out that the Minoans had toilets on Crete...before I read the article. Totally burst my bubble. Oh well.

What's funny to me is that it took another [apr.] 3,700 years for European culture to again get around to tackling the concept of finding a convenient way to get rid of that smelly stuff that comes out of everyone's backside...aside from digging a hole, that is.

War, destruction and conquering has set back man countless number of years, countless number of times.
