      No, I don't mean to Google the state of Kansas. What I'm saying is what was once known to us as Topeka, Kansas, is now Google, Kansas.

      This is pretty sweet if you ask me. I guess Topeka, I mean Google, wants to be a leading city in Technology.

      Topeka Mayor Bill Bunten signed a proclamation Monday calling for Topeka to be known for the month of March as "Google, Kansas — the capital city of fiber optics."
      Oh well. I guess us Californians will have to settle for measly ol' Silicon Valley.

      reminds me of DISH, (spelled with all caps, as in DISH network) Texas. Except, that's permanent. I wonder how much google shelled out for that one.

      I hate to be that guy, but there is a sort of sinister aspect to this story. The article doesn't directly mention this part until close to the end, but the reason behind the name is Google starting their fiber optic internet provider service and laying fiber cables in Topeka. Now you can access the internet through Google Service provider, connect through your Google Web browser and find what you are looking for with Google search engine. Is this worrisome? Correct me if I'm wrong, but this sounds like a vertically integrated monopoly set up.

      Heh yeah I read about this some days ago, pretty awesome in a way. I hope Google spreads to Europe with their services one day

      You have to keep in mind, as ridiculous as it may sound, Google's motto is "Don't be evil". Now anybody can go ahead and say that, but so far Google has always been a good company, doing hardly any evil things. I can't imagine why a company that has always been providing high quality free services and sometimes open source software, would suddenly start creating a monopoly on something. Unless of course it was the grand master plan from the start
