      Dayhike to a lake.

I'm going on a dayhike tomorrow to two lakes. The first is a smaller lake, and it's about 8km to it. The second lake, that's way bigger, is another 4km from the first. It's forcast to be partly cloudy, with a high of 18c and low of 8c. I'm going to take plenty of photos and post them tomorrow after I get back. Hopefully I'll see some hawks and bald eagles, maybe a porcupine or something.

So. I'm back, although it was amazing... I didn't reach either lake.

Me and my bro started at 11:30am and the first few Km to the river were easy. I took of my shoes and socks and crossed, and on the other side was a steep incline. At the pinnacle of the half km ridge there was some snow on the ground, and after a few more km we were trudging through 3 foot deep snow with our socks and shoes soaked through. We stopped for a break to start a fire, warm our feet, dry our shoes then eat something. We kept going, and eventually the trail turned into a small steep stream with 3 foot snow banks on either side. The day turned from sunny to cloudy about 3 hours in. After about 5 hours of hiking we realized we probably wouldn't make it to the lake by sundown and that we hadn't brought enough food so we headed back.

On the trip we saw plenty of bear tracks which were only a day old if that.

I'll post photos tonight with captions.

Southwestern British Columbia. Boreal Forests a plenty.

I'm uploading my photos right now, so I'll post them in a bit... and maybe some video too.

Haha, yep. We definately weren't expecting the snow... especially that deep. The week before the hike it was around 10 celsius, sometimes hotter. But, Once you get high enough, it doesn't matter what the weather is.

We wore cargo shorts, with t-shirts and light coats. And I wore a pair of hush-puppy dress shoes, while my bro wore some super light 'water shoes'... and we only had the 2 pairs of socks between us... so our feet were purple and white and red the whole time... so dry feet were a thought of the past up there

Me and my bro, as well as a friend of my bro, are planning a second trip up to the lakes set for this summer.

We're each going to buy a hammock and tarp, as well as some boots for my bro, and then go up there when it's less snowy.

It'll be a 3 day trip. The first day will be getting to lake one and setting up camp, the second day will be the shorter hike to the big lake and back, then the third day is the hike out of the mountains. We'll bring fishing stuff, and maybe our rifle again. Same routine, pictures and all.

Awesome pics! I love hiking. You've now encouraged me to really plan on going on a trail sometime soon (preferably when/where there's not too much snow).

Hey everyone! So I just got back from another hike... and although it was an 'easier' hike, there was more danger involved because we were using unmarked trails, had no map or compass, and just generally didn't know where we were going. Anyways, I got a bunch more pics that I'll post today or tomorrow.

Yeah, I live in Canada anyways... so we've got more of this kinda stuff than we know what to do with. A lot of people around where I am take it for granted... a majority of them probably don't even know that there's beauty like this all in their backyard. The two hikes in this thread were both within an hour drive from city center...

You should scrap those VW parts
Yeah, might we worth a bit :O
