I guess you've heard of the" Lucid Dreaming App" for Android by Alexander Stone? That's the reason I bought the Zeo in the first place. His app uses motion and sound sensors in your phone to track your sleep patterns. It also has some special wake alarm features that allow you to try WILD, wbtb etc.. He claims to have integrated the Zeo status into the app, but I'm not sure how well that works. I used his app without the Zeo for a while, then got the Zeo and tried using the two together. More lately I've been using just the Zeo. The problem with Alexander's app is that it's not finished, has a few bugs and he is no longer developping it - such a shame.
What I have learned is that becoming Lucid still needs skill and perseverence to work. I have only recently had my first Lucid experience. Although it was very brief and un-remarkable, it's give me an insight into what it means.
I don't think that simply being woken within REM will give you an LD - I suspect you will just wake out of it. You might get a brief glimpse, but stabilising seems to be something you have to learn as far as I can tell.
What the app and Zeo have done is make it easier for me to recall my dreams. I now tend to remember more than one dream a night.
I have tried this with Zeo. Set up a smartwake alarm for about 4-5 a.m. but set it to turn off if un-attended at 0 minutes. That way the alarm doesn't sound but the phone will vibrate briefly. The alrm and vibrate don't keep going if you do that. It means it can just bring you out without having to wake up completely and switch off the alarm. Should be better for a DEILD. I need to learn not to open my eyes when I wake, so no luck yet with a DEILD.
