ginkgo is really a wonder drug- I found that it really enhances my memory-maybe creativity too! memory boosters help aid lucid dreams because you are more awake and because you can recall more easily- my lucid dream aid combination would be---ginkgo and chocolate- chocolate always works for me though.

If you mean the tree Gingko, it's a living fossil, supossedly over 200 million years old.
Here is a ginko bonsai tree
I saw someone selling it on ebay, but I think you can't just eat it's leaves, or can you? But I did see some exstracts for sale. I don't know much anyway.

There is also a supplement called Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract (Ginkgo Folium)--> Medical uses

From my own experiences the male and female tree are considerably different.
The female can have an awful smell to it in the spring.

From one of my scientific American Magazines:

The ginkgo tree (Ginkgo biloba) is remarkable in many ways. Although indigenous to Korea, China and Japan, the tree can be found in parks and along city sidewalks around the world. It may grow as high as 40 meters and live for more than 1,000 years. Ginkgo fossils have been dated as far back as 250 million years ago, and Charles Darwin referred to the tree as "a living fossil."Nowadays, however, the ginkgo's primary claim to fame is the extract obtained from its fan-shaped leaves.

The use of ginkgo leaf extracts can be traced back for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine. Today ginkgo biloba is perhaps the most widely used herbal treatment aimed at augmenting cognitive functions--that is, improving memory, learning, alertness, mood and so on. Ginkgo is especially popular in Europe; officials in Germany recently approved the extract for treating dementia. In the U.S. the National Institute on Aging is currently supporting a clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of ginkgo in treating the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease

I have bought some Ginkgo Biloba Capsules in the Past and used them to see if it would bring a Clear state of Mind into my Dreaming Sleep as well. I stopped experimenting afer a few attempts with lack of results.

However I then took the in times when I was confused and chaotic in Mind. It helps to clear it up and does improve Cognitive and Mnemonic(memory) Abilities

Is there anyone here who can give me a precise discription of Ginkgo's exact mental effects & Duration of effects

ginkgo is a plant that boosts memory recall and concentration- there have been a lot of studies on it- it improves the bloodflow to the brain and is a sort of stimulant- it's been used for an herbal remedy for almost everything. maybe even helps boost creativity..you'd have to research it but it seemed to help my memory that's about all. it's perfectly safe too.

Does anyone know if Ginkgo has an IMEDIATE effect= Or does it only have effect if you Continuously take Ginkgo pills for a longer period of time?

I still have plenty of them so I might pick them up for DreamWork again.

I bought some ginkgo several months ago. I did notice that after 2 weeks or so, my dream recall increased greatly.

You see, I've been out of practice of lucid dreaming for 4 years, and just got back into it 3 weeks ago. So my dream recall before I started taking the ginkgo was almost nil. After that though I would remember 1 or 2 dreams a night in pretty good detail and vividness...even though I wasn't using it for lucid dreaming (just kinda saw the ginkgo pills in wal-mart and decided it'd be cool to remember more dreams).

I took ginkgo many many years ago (6 or so) before I learned about lucid dreaming, and man did it have some powerful affects on my dreams. So vivid and so long. And before I took them for the first time, I literally remembered fractions of dreams only once a month....or less...I wasn't a big dreamer back then.

Anyway, for me, ginkgo definately has a big impact when it comes to remembering my dreams, but I can't say that it has helped me become lucid...it's hard to say for certain though. I'd really like to read some more information regarding ginkgo biloba and lucid dreaming.
