      "the Secret"

      Just curious,
how many people on here have seen the 90 minute film,
"The Secret"? It has to do with the laws of the universe,
      and law of attraction.
Want to know if anybody has any real input on this video
as I saw it for the first time the other night and
      I found it very interesting.

I haven't seen it, but my mother owns it. This thread just reminded me of it. I think I'll watch it online sometime.

Wait...doesn't this belong in the lounge?

I saw this movie and while they have a lot of charismatic characters that get you excited about what they're saying... The movie really has nothing valuable to contribute.

In many different ways they just say that if you WANT something and "put your intentions out into the world" it will come to you. In the words of David Lynch: Bullshit! Certainly it helps to do this because its a big world with lots of realities going on, and so what you focus on is going to be more likely to come about.

But I think they really overemphasize this.. make up ridiculous or chance occurences like recieving a million dollar check in the mail, and undervalue the work that it takes to get most things worth having.

Maybe this law does work within the ethereal, energetic realms of the psyche of the spaced out New-Ager.. but it ignores most realities of the physical world.

I agree. It's like "Cosmic Ordering". Cosmic ordering works particularly well for people with big cheque books, but it won't work so well for a starving child in Dafur putting its intention for a bowl of soup out into the cosmos. We in the West are so tuned in to having everything on tap that we confuse fantasy with reality. Intention, cosmic ordering etc only works on the astral level, on the physical it means "get your act together and do something physical to get physical results", but it does work for the people who write the books though.

Here is an article about a writer who attempted trying everything in the book for two months: http://www.slate.com/id/2165746/

Slate is excellent news magazine. Many of the articles are reported on National Public Radio.

Well, Its fun to watch. In the end though it is really a piece of junk, but to each his own I guess.

I think the reason it doesn't work for most people is because they don't actually believe in it. I've heard it has to do with matching your "thought frequency" to how it would be when you actually have what you're trying to manifest. If you think in the back of your mind, "I know this is bull, it's not going to happen" then that's what you're putting out, so what you get back is bull.

I watched the movie but IMHO it's garbage.
The movie is repeating a lot. And boring.
I did completely watch it but don't really know why...
It can all be explained in one line and they make a damn movie out of it.

The movie was had anecdotal evidence, and is complete pseudoscience.

Many of the quantum physicist interviewed in the video, argue that there statements where taken out of context.

If you ask me its your typical shyster.

I've seen it but the information didn't stick.
I was very tired, and then having them talk about the universe and that complicated stuff wasn't making me more awake :p

I'm not really shocked by the amount of people who believe in such things. If someone can convince themselves they didn't step in poo , good for them. Otherwise, I enjoy the mysteries of life, none of which has me "controlling the Universe"

At least there are a few of us out there who enjoy not having all the answers...

I watched the movie a year ago I think. I believed in it for a while because I was desperate for change. I'm still desperate but now I aknowledge that there is no hope, no heaven, no angels and no universe that cares about us.
      Current projects:
      -Acquire the Aurora
      -Test galatamine, huperzine and choline
-Find smartwatch app for RC reminders at certain intervals
-Ressurect my dream log here, and become more active

You don't need to believe in 'up there' to have hope. The word does have a religious sound to it. I think of it as wishful thinking.

lol @ Mad Stratter, read it a bit too late.
