      Secret sony patent

A while ago i came over an article spreading the news about a sony device patent that would use ultrasound to stimulate the mind, to induce waking dreams. I imagine this would be something like from the movie "Paprika". Ive tried searching the web for it recently but never found anything about it again.

I came over a link where someone else mentions this briefly:

Anyone else remember or heard about this?

I remember reading about that, and found several articles via Google; here is part of one with a link to it at the end:

      Sony patents brain controller

      By Lucy Sherriff

Posted in Science, 7th April 2005 10:23 GMT

Sony has been awarded a patent for a technology that could conjure up smells, tastes and other sensations in the brains of movie-goers. Specifically, the patent (US Patent 6,729,337) covers "a method for generating sensory data onto the human neural cortex"."

...The technology is outlined in the patent thus: "Changes in the neural firing timing induce various sensory experiences, depending on the location...the system induces recognizable sensory experiences by applying ultrasonic energy pulsed at low frequency in one or more selected patterns on one or more selected locations of the cortex."

Elizabeth Boukis, a spokeswoman for Sony Electronics, described the invention as "prophetic", New Scientist reports. "It was based on an inspiration that this may someday be the direction that technology will take us," she told the magazine.

I'm with you, I hope I live long enough to see this put into the marketplace for consumers. It would be awesome, and the possibilities are mindboggling.

Perhaps this will be the PS4?
