I just had a very long (and terrifying) series of false awakenings. It started off as a regular dream, and then I thought I woke up, but I couldn't get out of bed. I kept trying to wake up, and I kept just waking up in my bed and I'd try to turn a light on and read something and it just wouldn't work. A couple times I thought I was really awake and I would go downstairs and start telling someone about how I was just stuck in a dream for a long time, and then I would realize I was still dreaming. I felt like the guy from Waking Life. It started to really freak me out to the point of panicking and I kept just trying to turn on lights, and they wouldn't work. Eventually I had a moment of clarity, and thought "I'm not gonna stay asleep forever, might as well take advantage of this." I walked to my window and tried to jump through. It was solid, but I opened it and jumped through down to the ground. The night air was very peaceful, and I jumped up and began swimming up vertically into the air. The trees and houses below me looked very beautiful, and eventually I started to see little villages of tents arranged in circles with people walking around, and a fighting ring with dragons standing around in chains. A few seconds later the dream dissolved and I woke up naturally.

I've never had this happen before, usually my problem is the opposite, I can't stay asleep. I think there may have been a connection between the panicked trying to wake up and not being able to wake up, because when I relaxed and just had fun, the problem went away. I was very relieved when I finally did wake up, though.
