      hi, i'm new here

hello, i just found this site after looking for basic info on lucid dreaming. my philosophy/religions teacher recently mentioned lucid dreaming in conjunction with the bardo state. (if we don't know when we are dreaming, how will we know when we are in the bardo state?)

probably as a result of discussing dreams with the teacher after class, i had my first lucid dream the night before last.

lately, my dreams have been incredibly mundane with a surreal detail. the night before last, i dreamed i was walking along a cliff over a beach near where i grew up in california. the colors were bright, and i was at peace. i knew there were other people around, but everyone was doing their own thing, so i didn't pay any attention.

i realized everything was too bright, and that i was dreaming. it wasn't like i expected, because i was fully conscious and aware. but as soon as i became lucid, i realized the people around me were negative people from my past. they realized i was aware, and they began coming after me. i took a few steps toward the edge of the cliff, and one guy was nearly at the top, scaling the cliff with his bare hands.

i made myself wake up, although i had to pry my eyes open with my fingers they were clenched so tightly.

i guess i was just wondering how common it is that a lucid dreamer would be "attacked" when they became lucid? also, if something similar happens in the future, how could i prevent myself from having thoughts about them knowing what i'm about to do? hope this isn't too confusing, thanks for reading it!

      Welcome, Spacegem,

Lucid dreaming is certainly a fascinating and wonderful topic. In your pursuit of lucid dreams I highly recommend you read Stephen LaBerge's "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming." This illuminating book contains everything you need to dream lucidly and enjoy lucid dreaming.

Dreams characters behave as you expect them to. Because you assumed that they have intentions to harm you, they harmed you. Remember, you have control over every aspect of the dream, including the characters, so nothing should make you afraid. Think positively, and the dream will behave that way too.

      Peace,
      Tech

No problem. Heck, the book is available in PDF format online. I keep a copy of it on my iPod for quick references.

True, there is a lot of information on the net, but take it with a grain of salt. Be wary if the website/user:

1.Attempts to sell you anything. Lucid dreaming is free!, and while audio tracks and supplements may help, the website trying to sell you things often wants you to think that their product is the only way for you to have lucid dreams.

      2. Hasn't been around that long. If a website, or especially a user, hasn't been around for that long, then be careful. Nothing against new users, but some people act like they know more than they do. And maybe it's not their intent to sound smart, maybe they are passing around bad information someone else gave them.

Anyhow, happy browsing. I'll be here, so reply or PM or whatever if you've got questions.

      Peace,
      Tech

      Welcome to the site spacegem

I actually checked that book out at the library today, it's a great read. There's also tons of good information on the site about all things lucid dreaming.

I frequently read it while doing a WBTB.
