Lights!

Last night I dreamt I was at school and my class didn't want to take a test. One girl got up and turned off the lights so we could go to sleep. All the lights went off. The teacher got up and turned only one set back on. So that whole thing about light levels in dreams... yeah I guess it doesn't apply to me any more Anything like this happen to you guys?

This morning I had a false awakening. I turned on a lamp to write down my dream, but it turned off after a while. I turned it back on, and it kept playing wiht me, finally I realized It was a dream, and I woke up...

So lightswitches aren't supposed to work in dreams? Something i noticed a while ago is that in almost all of my dreams the lighting - like lighting in a movie i guess - is the same. It's sort of half day-half night; there are virtually no shadows like on a cloudy day, but the ambient light is bright and yellow and warm. At the same time i think the sky is often darker than usual...

Usually light levels will not change in dreams, that's why its a good idea to flip a light switch as part of your reality check.

well, I think most of the time that is true, I have had the funny lucid dream where I flipped a light switch, then like 2 seconds later the light in the room kinda went up maybe my mind was creating the light on? and indeed there was the ceiling light too... also, i've pulled lamp switches and they went on as well, so there are the odd cases where that doesn't completely hold true. most of the time that reality check works fine. controlling light levels is totally doable in your dreams even without light switches, yelling 'light' or just willing light intensity to go up works quite well after practise. I've found the latter to work better.

Hmm, yeah after watching Waking Life I tried the light switch thing and it always seemed to work, [but maybe it wouldn't have worked had i not expected it to or had any knowledge of the reality check trick]. Never thought about just willing it. I'll have to try and keep that one in mind, next time I'm stuck in a dungeon or something. Thanks burning it into my head now by reading it a couple times.
