      Stuck in a dream?

Well, first off I would like to say "hullo" ^_^' This is my first time posting here, I have read a little before on the forums aswell as the tutorials and decided I should unlurk, sign-up, and contribute .

I am new to the whole lucid dreaming concept and actually came onto it by accident. One night I was nodding off to sleep and began dreaming. This was my dream- I was in a parking lot, it was at night, and I was going to get into a car, more specifically, a PT-Cruiser. I thought at that moment, "wait a minute stupid, you don't have a PT-Cruiser" and I realized I was dreaming. I began to wake up at that moment but at the same time go back to sleep, during this time I was in the dream but I felt vibrations over my whole body, and the last word I said to myself, ("Cruiser"), was replaying itself over and over, more like the "errrrrr" part of it. After a few seconds I woke up. I was just thinking to myself, "what was that?!?" After a little research I found this site and learned it was a 'WILD', or correct me if I am wrong. The reason why I though that is because of the vibration feeling.

But onto the main point of the this post.

Last afternoon, I was not feeling so well, (sore throat) so I decided to take a nap. Last thing I remember I was dreaming about was- I was sitting in the passenger seat of a car looking out the window. Outside the window were trees, autumn colored. At this point, I realized I was dreaming, due to the fact I live in a city and we dont have trees like that. Like my previous experience, I felt myself wake up and at the same time fight to go back to sleep, ( cause I knew what was happening this time from reading tutorials ). I felt the vibrations, I seen blackness. I opened my 'dream eyes' and instead of seeing the trees through the car window, I seen my bedroom through the car window, and instead of sitting up I was laying down, on my bed. This where I started to get freaked out- I tryed to move my hand in front of my face, I felt like it was moving but I couldnt see it in front of my face. I tried to move my neck, I couldnt move it. I tried to sit up but when I did, I felt the vibrations get very strong, almost to the point of pain around my waist. I tried to wake myself up, but no luck. I tried for at least 2 minutes it seemed, until finally the vibrations stopped and I woke up. I dont remember how I woke up at all. All I know is I wanted to wake up but couldn't.

Any reason for the strong vibrations? Or why I couldnt wake up?

Hey there Static, and welcome to DreamViews!

Glad you decided to sign up -- looking forward to your contributions.

Congratulations on discovering lucid dreaming! I would have to say that your experience was not a WILD. In your case, you were already dreaming, and suddenly realized it was a dream. WILD is where you enter a lucid dream directly from a waking state, and you know it's a dream from the beginning. In your case, something in the dreams tipped you off, so you entered lucidity via a dream sign. This is essentially a DILD.

However, the vibrations you felt were undoubtedly the same ones that people get when doing a WILD -- it's just that you felt it after waking up partially instead of when going to sleep. They are part of the phenomenon know as Sleep Paralysis (SP). When you are sleeping, your brain pretty much paralyzes your body so that you do not "act out" your dreams. Usually most people are not aware of this, but If you become conscious before your body is really awake (or in the case of WILD, can allow your body to fall asleep while your mind remains conscious), then you become aware of the SP.
