So real, boyfriend go into bed with me this morning. Anyone had similar?

Hi there, I'm new here but I've have quite a few lucid dreams before. I've never intentionally tried to have a lucid dream, but I absolutely love it, but this morning was one that really freaked me out.

My boyfriend got up and went to work this morning but I didn't have to go to work today so gave myself a lie in. I was in and out of sleep, and half had my eyes closed when someone got into bed next to me. The duvet lifted and I felt the warmth of someone.I couldn't move. I was scared but it felt like my boyfriend so calmed down a bit. He put his arms round me and kissed my neck. I could feel his breath and feel his fingernails and veins on his hand, we played with each others fingers. All the while I felt totally awake - looking out at my bedroom. I spoke to him - asked if it was him and he said yes. I knew this was a dream and was worried that he might turn into someone nasty, so I told him I loved him and he said it back. It was very very real. I could feel every hair on his head, and the hair on his arms. The voice and the breath were real. I couldn't move my upper body so asked him if he could show himself - if I could see him. I felt him shake his head and said 'no'. It happened twice before I was fully awake, both for a couple of minutes at least. I woke up feeling awful - and still do feel really weird. Almost violated.

I have had this before, when I was ill and lying in a hostel bed. I could feel someone behind me, but this was before I had my boyfriend so it was pretty scary. They licked the back of my neck - it was horrible.

Another thing that happened this morning... I heard voices, very close to me. I could pin point them in the room. I heard my uncle talking. Not to me. I tried to listen to what he was saying but I really can't remember what it was. I actually tried to make them swear (!) but I couldn't change what they were saying.

All this makes me wonder at the power of the brain! It's amazing that the brain can conjure up a real person - its like the whole world is the construct of the brain. Makes me wonder how real everything actually is! And the people talking - I'm thinking these must have been real conversations my subconscious has remembered - even though I've never remembered what my uncle has said verbatim.

I can now totally see why many people think they've seen or felt ghosts -or heard people talking to them. I've googled 'ghost got into bed with me' and quite a few things have come up where people have experienced arms around them - but assumed it was a ghost. If I didn't know any better...

Anyone experienced anything like this? (I'll note here - this all happened without me trying). Love to hear about it.

It sounds like a lucid dream to me: you say that you were aware that it was a dream, and if so, that's a lucid dream.

It is a shame that you are bothered by this, and feel violated. I think it is actually a wish fulfilling dream: a part of you wished your boyfriend had stayed home and could come back to bed. I think if you accepted this you would be a happier person.

Before you had a boyfriend, could it be that part of you wished you had one, and thus your dream mind fantasizes about someone in your bed?

Why do you feel violated by this experience? Do you at least upon waking realize that this is all based on your imagination? So your mind imagined your boyfriend back home from work, why is this scary to you? It's not like a stranger was in your bed. It was all your own mind, do you think you can accept this and not mind it?

Such an interesting and great post!
I'm trying to work out if what you experienced was a dream (lucid or otherwise) or sleep paralysis. I'm thinking it is more likely to be SP as it kind of fits a lot of the criteria. You're absolutely right though it's amazing how realistic these experiences are and it really does make one wonder about just how powerful our minds are.
I've had a lot of these SP experiences, I find them a good starting point to get a fully fledged lucid dream underway.

Thanks for your replies. JoannaB - I think you're right that the first dream I had in the hostel may have been a wish for someone to be holding me - but that doesn't make it a nice experience!
The dream I had this morning - as soon as I felt someone get into bed it was not immediately my boyfriend - I know that I wished it to be because I didn't want it to be like the first experience I had, which was pretty horrible. Which is why I had to keep talking to him, and touching him to know it was him. I felt violated because I knew it wasn't really him, and I was just on edge the whole time wondering if he was going to turn on me and bite my neck or something. I wish I could have enjoyed it! But it was so real it was way way too weird. But you're right - it could be my subconsciousness wishing that I had someone holding me at the time.
Spaceexplorer - why do you think it was SP? I'm not well read in these things... I thought it must be a dream - otherwise what got into bed with me?

It truly is amazing for our brain to conjure things like this. I've had this experience happen to me several times.

I remembered waking up in a dream and see this gorgeous female wearing a detailed and laced pink bra and panties, and I was so saturated with excitement, I started to get irritated for waking up for real. I also had one where I was lucid, and there was this statue in front of me that kept distorting, and when I woke up, I still saw the image in front of me, as if I could still touch it if I wanted to reach for it.

There was another female that was directly in front of me, I was just a few inches from touching her hair and just doing whatever (smelling them, rubbing my face against theirs, and more) until I woke up. It's definitely crazy and sometimes too much for a tease.

Yeah, the subconscious definitely shows its true potential when you're lucid dreaming; seeing all of the wonders and how without your awareness of the subconscious process, it creates a nearly picture-perfect simulation of all sorts of desires within yourself. Those feelings of unconditional love transcends to waking life, and the person yearns to experience it more. To me, it's just personal proof that no matter how amazing or how much we love someone in waking life, ultimately, our subconscious is the pathway into having everything we could want.

It's so addicting, and having the assurance that no matter what happens, the ego and other parts of yourself care about you the most, like the ultimate companion that sticks by you to the end.

I think when a person experiences this sensation and experience with strong emotions being expressed to them like this, it starts leaving a trail that the mind starts holding on to them. You have the tingling sensations that feel so real because of the memory of the realism of it combined with your desire to have it again. Definitely something you have to personally experience, but at least you know now.
