has anyone had dreams like this? It's driving me crazy

Ok this happens in lucids and non-lucids. In rl I'm a straight girl. In my dreams I'll be w/ a guy and kissing him and such, but the weird thing is that it gets turned around and I'm the guy and the guy is the girl. Usually when this happens I'm only talking to them. It's so weird because I don't even notice until I wake up. Has this ever happened to anyone else? What does it mean?????

I can't provide a detailed answer as this has never happened to me, but I've heard of it happening. I can say that by no means does it mean that you should start questioning your sexuality. Personally- I'd love to have a dream where I could experience what it was like to be a man.

Yes, I believe that this is fairly common. This has happened to me on occasion. This has happened to me only when lucid. The "transition" usually begins discreetly, but ends with me saying, "this sucks" and leaving the scene.

I think it's just another stumbling block found in dreams, such as occasionally not being able to run from something, or not being able to speak, etc.

BTW, my gender has never changed in a dream.

i see it more as fulfilled fantasy. not to say that you want to be a man, but being that you're a woman, in the physical world that is all you will EVER be. Curiousity is human nature.

Jrels I'm confused. U said this has happened to u before, but u've never changed genders. What does that mean? When it happens I dont' even notice until I wake up which is pretty odd. It's comforting to kno that it's common.

Well I mean that I've been "making out" with a girl who then, to my dismay, morphs into a guy...

So I guess I haven't entirely experienced what you're talking about because, in my experience, I remained the same while the other person changed.

Imachinchilla, I'm female (and happily married) and I've had many dreams where I've changed gender (gone from female to male) or where I was male from start to finish and I don't worry about it.. in fact I kinda enjoy them!

"Dreams of changing gender are very common as these other 'selves' simply represent feelings or thoughts that come from a side of your personality that you regard as being 'male'. There are many characteristics that we associate with a particular gender, such as aggression being male. It is normal and natural for this to be played out in your dream as you becoming the opposite gender. It helps you to explore or act out feelings, or burn off negative thoughts, that you would otherwise repress."

That makes a lot of sense now that I think about it. I remember last time I changed genders was when I got in a fistfight with this guy. lol.

I have never thought of it this way. Maybe because I have never had these dreams. Now that I think about it, what this says makes sense. I would really like to have this dreaming experience.

See Imachinchilla, one more reason not to worry about it... people actually want to dream about being the opposite sex!
