      First lucid dream, or semi-lucid?

First of all, can someone enlighten me on what the difference between a lucid dream and a semi-lucid dream is? It seems to me either you would be lucid or not o.o From what I can gather, semi-lucid just means that not the whole dream was lucid?

Anyway, I belive I had my first (known) lucid experience a couple nights ago. I would have posted before, but I've been a little busy.

Anyway, the dream started as some sort of B-rated zombie flic. I was the 'hero', although there wasn't much hero work to do--these were friendly zombies! They went about their every day lives much as living humans do Of course, humor ensued, as the zombies weren't all very well put together. They might lose a limb fighting over a parking space at Wal*Mart or something.

Quite a few stuff happened, up until a point where I was really pissed off at someone, and I stormed out of this motel room. I started lifting off of the ground, and about five feet up, I suddenly realized that, "Holy shit! This is a dream!"

I drifted down the street for a moment, basking in wonder. I was simply in awe at what my mind was creating right there on the spot. I willed a few environmental things to occur; birds flying about, wind blowing crap about, I even willed a plane to fly overhead!

I just had to go show the director of that movie what I could do, so I soared to where he was hanging out. I shouted at him, "Ray! Look!" And... About that time, my mind decided that I wasn't going to fly anymore, so I looked like a complete asshole in front of him.

I went back outside, pissed off again, this time because I couldn't fly, and I sort of did again--but then I woke up.

Do you guys think that would qualify as my first lucid dream? I've had some dreams before where I could fly, but I didn't really think anything of it--this was the first one where I realized what I was doing, and that I was dreaming.

You are correct. In the strictest definition, if you realize that you are dreaming, then it is a lucid dream. However, perhaps the semi part comes from the part that only a small part of the dream was lucid?

From there, it is a matter of lucid dream quality. Sounds like your dream had some moments of lucidity in it.

The other night, I had a brief moment of lucidity, but no matter how hard I tried, I could not keep it and was sucked back into non-lucidity.

yeah, I've had similar things happen in a couple of my lucids. My most recent one is probably the best I've had as far as time spent lucid and participation in it.

I actually took the time to just look around and check things out, plants, grass, my hands, sky, etc. I didn't just run off and try to have sex (even though I should have!). However, at first, when I realized I was dreaming, I was able to fly, with no problem. But later on towards the end, I could barely get off the ground. I even fell and landed just inches off the ground and hovered there. Why couldn't I fly? I was still lucid - or was I? Maybe I started to lose lucidity and wasn't really sure anymore.

I think when things like this happen in lucids it's because we start forgetting that we're dreaming and aren't really confident anymore about doing the things that SHOULD work.

That happens a lot to me. I think it’s because we’re not stable and lucidity is fading.

Excellent! Even though I hadn't set out that night to have a lucid dream, I'm very excited that I was able to experience one, even for a little bit. I definitely want to have more
