      Pre-Lucidity is disrupting my sleeping

For years i've been experiencing the precursor of lucid dreaming. I'd try to go/fall asleep, and I get the whole sleep paralysyes thing. And hear things around me and what not, or getting a feeling of a presense of someone. I would get scared and try to wake up, but wouldn't be able to. I would then take a couple deep breathes and wake up. But right after I woke up, I would be so tired and the whole cycle keep repeating itself.

Basically, I don't want to fall asleep at night because this always happends. I want to either stop it or get passed it. I get scared and realize I am dreaming and want to wake up.

      Anyone have any suggestions?

Feel free to post, IM, etc....

      Thanks

      tyler

Sleep paralysis can be frightning at first. I remember when I was a little kid it would lead to anxiety attacks...

That said - it generally passes, and can be kinda fun. Some people pay good money to buy drugs that have some of those effects.

I guess the question that has to be asked then, since the fear hasn't passed: What is it that you're afraid of exactly? From what does this fear extend? What are you feeling when this occurs?

I've seen the forum has a fair number of people active in the mental-health community. Hopefully one of them will be by and take this deeper. But I suspect the above question to be a reasonable starting point.

      follow-up

      Yesterdays happenings:

I took a nap around 6ish or so. I remember being at a bar and having a conversion about whatever, as the conversation went on I realised that this actually never took place, therefore it must be a dream. Instead of waking up, I tried to stay in the dream a little longer. I then woke up and I was in the sleep para., I only (or felt like) could move my fingers and my toes, I then it sounded like to people walked into my room and were trying to wake me up. I heard them laughing and whatnot. I then thought to myself, well if they are actually there then by them hitting me i'd actually wake up.

I then woke up, and realised no one was there.

This caused mental anguish for you? Were you worried about this?

The state you're reaching is what many describe as the ready-state for OOBE (out of body experience). It's also a ready-state for LD.

Are you lucid enough in this state to instruct yourself to relax and to then attempt your first entry into LD control?

What I usually do is I take a couple deep breathes, and the noises keep getting louder and louder........I mean it freaks me out. After a couple deep breathes my body realises that it's amake, and I can finally move. I've tried to stay in "it" as long as possible, but there is this fear.......I'm not sure what it is, but I just have to get up.
