I did something weird this morning, but thought it was kind of neat. It was somewhere between 7 and 9 AM, and I had woken up and was going back to sleep. I don't know how long I was asleep, but at some point, I regained conciousness and found myself "stuck" between being awake and being asleep. It was kind of like a WILD, I guess, but not really since I didn't have any strange sensations or hallucinations. The only unusual thing I noticed was a ringing in my ears. The ringing kept getting louder and quieter, as if my body couldn't make up its mind whether it would wake up or go back to sleep. My eyes were closed, by the way.

When I realized what was going on, it bothered me a little, since I'm not confortable with the idea of doing a WILD right now, and I didn't want to "accidentally" go through one. I lied there for a few seconds trying to decide what to do. Then I somehow discovered I was under sleep paralysis, and at the same time I remembered reading a post here about someone "forcing themself" into a lucid dream from sleep paralysis state. I decided to try it just for kicks, rather than lie there waiting for who-knows-what to happen. So I kept trying to get up out of bed despite the paralysis, and with some work, I found myself moving around and kind of turning in bed a little bit. At first I had no idea if I was actually awake moving my real body or not, but I figured that if I was lucky, this was really a false awakening, which would automatically be a LD since I was consious of what I was doing.

When I opened my eyes, I saw my room, and it looked real, but I could somehow tell there was something sort of "dreamlike" about it. I kept trying to get out of bed, since for some reason I assumed that if I could just get my feet on the floor and stand up I would be able to move freely. I could move, but only intermittently and in short distances at a time, so it was very difficult. I eventually managed to get myself in a position where I could check my (digital) watch and do a reality check. The numbers were fuzzy and indistinct, but I made out what looked like "00:5?", meaning "12:5? AM" (I don't remember what the last digit was, hence the question mark). Since there was light coming through the windows, and I knew it was between 07:00 and 09:00 in real life, I knew it definitely wasn't 00:5?. I thought, "Pefect! This is almost certainly a dream." Now if I could just get out of bed and practice dream control for the first time...

I continued trying to roll myself out of bed, but since I could still only move incrementally, I couldn't quite manage to do it. Then the dream abrubtly ended, and I found myself lying awake (which I confirmed with a couple more RCs ) in my original sleeping position. I have no idea what caused me to wake up, unless I accidentally moved my physical body or opened my eyes somehow. It was a nice try, though. 8)
