Attempting to Create a Home Base--Help!

My latest experiment with my lucid dreams is to try to create a "home base"--a place I could easily recreate/teleport to when I became lucid--so that I'd have a stable environment to start out from when I wanted it. I figured a simple room with a desk and openable window should do, since I could easily imagine things lying on the desk, and open the window to go outside. (I chose an indoor location because most of my dreams take place indoors.)

I have, however, had a hard time creating this location. I can visualize it pretty clearly while waking, though. So far, two tries, during the past week:

The first was during a dream about family. I became lucid and decided to see if I could create my "home base"; I only ended up with a desk. The annoying thing was that the dream continued around me; my little sister was the most persistent dream character of the lot. All I managed was the desk.

The second time I did a little better. In this dream I became lucid and was at college; I walked around the outside of the building, let myself in through a wall, and pulled some shelves together at the bookstore to form an enclosed space. I also had a chair and a clipboard there. Still not near what I wanted.

So I'm wondering: I've had experience at creating/summoning items, and at "teleporting" to different locations. However, teleporting to or creating an entire, specific (if simple) room still seems to elude me:

--Dreams are fluid, and creating a specific, static place seems difficult.
--I still persist in thinking in "real-world" terms: i.e., pushing bookshelves together rather than simply creating walls.
--Is the simplicity of the room a problem?
--Is it a problem that the room does not have a real-world duplicate? (I have tried teleporting to rooms that exist in real life, but they are often fluid and changeable, and too complicated to recreate the same way each time).

What I'm looking for is a consistent location that stays the same, that I can easily create whenever I become lucid.

      Any advice?

I've been venturing into the same thing, recently. Have you ever heard of the Lucid Crossroads? I've been using that idea for me "home base." I'm so undisciplined, though, that I've never gotten there. I've tried flying there, and going through mirrors, but something usually happens before I actually end up making it there. But anyway, it is a great idea, and I like the way it is set-up, so maybe it will benefit you, too. 8)

I'm completely the opposite. As soon as I become lucid I stop the dream
and focus my mind. From that point I just do as I choose. Sometimes I go
with the scenario that is in existence at the time; others I start fresh and
whatever I desire I think into being.
Why do you desire a static base ? I think that would mess me up.
I've gained alot of control lately, but going to the same place each time I achieve
lucidity and then starting from there just seems unnecessary. I'd be afraid I'd
wake up instead of enjoying myself.
So that's my ?. Do you need this base to have lucid dreams ? Or is trying to
create such a place distracting you ?

      You're getting sleepy......

      Hey Callista,

For a while I had somewhat a same goal as yourself. To me it wasn't a "home base", but simply a place that I could visualize and create in waking life and then compare the changes and additions that my "dream director" (as I once heard an associate of LaBerge refer to it) would create.

I started out visualizing this dreamscape while in the process of trying to meditate. Your mind will reach a point to where you're open to suggestions that can be burned into your mind easier than simply closing your eyes and imagining something.

Creative visualization sounds easy, but without good concentration it really isn't. I've found myself going over one particular area or part of this dreamscape over and over, like being stuck in a loop, and not able to move beyond that point. Why? probably because that next point does not exist yet in my mind - it needs to be created. Like rendering a piece of art, trial and error, trial and error. In dreams, this creation (I believe) happens a lot quicker and without much effort.

My suggestion would be to get yourself in a very relaxed state - short of falling to sleep - and sort of daydream this "home base" of yours. Interact with everything there and memorize it to the point where it seems like it may have happened in waking life. It's likely that this dream director will put you in this place without you having to try when you're dreaming.

Yeah--I ahve a place like tihs. Actually, three.

The first one, the white one, has been there the longest, and is the oldest of all of them. From this place, I can go into rooms that keep eveyrthingabout certain person in them, and I can change how I act... it is very weird. I remember going in and being angry that i was allergic to cats, and I made it to... my allergy room? And I saw all the switches that determined if i was allergic to anything, and I found the one that said "cats" and flipped it down. Now, I'm completley ok being around cats, whereas before I had a lot of difficulty with my asthma around them. I've also found that whne I'm being moody, that I can fixt hat, too, only in a different chamber with lotso f aspects of my personality locked up to keep a power balance. When I'm being moody, there tends to be some that have gotten out and I jsut need to lock them back up again.

That hosue is alot of fun. I also have a yellow-tinted one with all of my memories in it. As well as a green one that I can jsut relax in.

I dont think it's someting o ucan concentrate on creating, but rahter sometihng you stumble upon in your dreams. : Feel free to IM with any questions.

it would be best to just teleport to a place from real life (like your room) to start with, then slowl start changing things until its how you want it, but the base room would prolly have to be a well known place for you (my bedroom is where i always start)

Heh, it seems you're not alone in this goal. I have also been trying to think of a place that exists only in my dreams, as a sort of constant factor in there. For me, I've tried to create an infinite forest or wild environment on a whole other plane of existence. I'm letting my dream loose on this one, though, as I'm only intending to create a couple of general rules for it instead of really specific things. Things like:

      - It's always sunny and bright.
      - It is mostly a forest, but there's all kinds of other areas too.
      - The environment is lively, with a lot of plants and animals.
      - A couple of dream characters live in the forest and can always be found there.
      etc.

Rules like those make for a predictable environment that your dream still has enough room to play with. My dream could easily plant a tower in the middle of this forest if it wanted to. I could also end up in an open field near the sea. The important thing is to set the tone of the place, not exactly how it's going to look like. Some rules you could use could be:

      - There's always at least one desk, cupboard and bed in my home base.
      - The dominant color in my home base is blue.
      - My home base is not accessible to any dream characters, I'm always there alone.
      - My home base is peaceful; I can think without being disturbed there, by anything.
      etc.

Then let your mind fill in the details of what your home base exactly looks like. Maybe if you give your dream a little room it will be a lot more cooperative.

Maybe I might do better starting off small... like trying to create an object that I know can always be found in the dream world... A book, to record things in? Or maybe I'd be better off with an easel and some paints, since writing tends to go wacky in most dreams.

I've already visited the same place twice (outer space, while doing an advanced task), so I know I'm capable of it. But maybe I'm being too ambitious to start out.

Well I made a car... I was just sitting arround and I thought wouldn't it be cool to make a car to drive arround in dreams with, so I just thought about it for a few hours and just concentrated on how it looked and what it did and that the keys to it are always in my pocket. My suggestion is that you really have a good idea it is that you are making and then create a device that will bring you there and put it in your pocket.

How do you try to Create the 'home base'? Just teleporting or creating out of nowhere sounds hard. Not that I have tried it in an LD ^__^

But when I wanted to get to my school, instead of teleporing there or something, I just turned around a corner and there it was =)

Maybe try to turn a corner to create your home base? ^__^ Or would that disband the use of a home base? ^__^

      good luck anyway!
