Is this my first lucid dream?

      Hey everyone,

I’m not sure if this was a lucid dream. It was very vague and if I did become lucid, it was only momentarily and it seemed like I had no control over anything (even my dream body). Here’s what happened (I’ll put in blue where I suspect I was lucid):

In my dream, I’m at church and I’m talking to a priest before Mass begins. Suddenly, something catches fire on one of the walls and I try to put it out but I can’t. The fire alarm goes off and moments later the fire department arrives.

When the firemen enter the church, they turn out to be elderly people who are very frail and could hardly walk. My dream self seemed to find this very strange. So I asked the priest why these trained firemen could hardly walk and he said that they were new with the fire department.

I immediately thought something was not right about this…at all.

Then my dream self said, “hey, maybe I’m dreaming!” So I do a few reality checks (forgot which ones my dream self did) and my dream self came to conclusion I was dreaming. Suddenly, everything turned black and white and started morphing and the scene completely changed.

I noticed the firemen and the priest were gone and a little boy of about 8 had taken their place. My dream self noted a lot detail like his blue eyes but I really don’t remember much of it. During this whole time, I could somehow tell that my dream self was breathing very rapidly (as if it was excited).

Then my dream starts to fade and my dream self says “okay, spinning technique”. I never attempt one
and I drift into a dark sleep.

Now, I’m sure you're all saying that that was definitely my first lucid dream but the reason I’m doubting it is because it felt no different than a normal dream except for the fact that my dream self was shouting things about lucid dreaming. Plus, I had absolutely no control over anything, not even my dream body. Or if I did have control, I don't remember it. So I don’t know.

      What do you think?

Hmm. Well you weren't actually in control of yourself at all in the moment, so I'd be inclined to think it wasn't actually a lucid dream. But for me, when I first learned to control dreams, my first signs were just like that. The first thing is becoming aware in your dream that you are dreaming. Soon enough you'll probably be able to hold onto that thought for long enough to control the dream a bit.

Yes, it was your first lucid dream. Congratulations!

Lucid dream is simply a dream where you know that you're dreaming. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with dream control. You can have lucid dreams where you have little or no control at all over your dream, and on the other hand you can have non-lucid dreams where you seem to have total control over the events.

So, in lucid dreams, you usually have control over your dream, but by definition it's just about knowing that you're dreaming.

Definitely your first lucid dream. Congratulations!

As Hate pointed out, lucidity only refers to the realization that you're dreaming. Control and things of that nature are completely separate. Many people actually choose not to take control over their dream selves while LDing because they like to observe and analyze the way their subconscious mind plays out their own actions and behavior. There are many different methods to lucid dreaming, but they all begin with the realization that you're dreaming in the first place.

Way to go, man. Good luck with expanding on your new-found ability.

      had my first last night!

hey, just announceing my first lucid dream that occured last night between 12:00 and 1:00 last night. I was watching the movie "Waking Life" for about the 5th time just trying to get more and more out of the movie when about half way into it i decided i was to tired to continue. so i decided to go to sleep. (having no intention on lucid dreaming) when suddenly my phone rang, it was my friend calling. but then i said, wait a sec, she would never call this late...and i looked around and realized i was in a dream. the second i realized it my body and face went completly numb and tingly...at the moment i figured it was some sort of way my body was punishing me for realizing i was in a dream, like cheating the dream system or somthing?... so after my body cooled down i was in a classroom and remembered how i was dreaming before, i then saw i was in a different dream. being aware of it i said to the teacher.."hey guess what buddy!...im in a dream right now, meaning i dont have to listen to any of your bullsh**. I think i get enough of it in my waking life!..so im going to go have fun while i can in this dream"...and i had what seemed like 50 more dreams, it felt like 3 days of sleep and dreaming, when i woke up to realize it had only been an hour.

      - best sleep experience ive ever had!, and im lokoing forward to having more -

      Thanks for the comments, guys.

I did recognize I was dreaming but it really didn't seem to be any different than a non-lucid dream - I guess I had an extremely low level of lucidity. Oh well, it's a start, I can only go uphill from here.

And awesome dream, Jeff - congrats on lucidity.

      Well

That seemed to be your first lucid and don't worry if you didn't feel like you were lucid and you felt likeyou were still in a non-reginizable feeling. My first lucid dream turned out to be a nightmare so i consider you a bit more luckier then me.
Im not afraid of the dark, its whats in it.
*the lights turn off and the whole room goes dark*
Oh im fin- Ahhhhhhhh its a scary figment of my imagination.
