Thread: interaction with dream characters in lucid dreams...

I've only had a few lucid dreams so far, in almost every case I have been entirely alone in the dream-world, although in one case I came across a man who I had never seen before, who very helpfully told me he was part of my subconscious. The thing I am wondering about is, when you meet someone in a lucid dream who is a person you know in real-life, to what extent do you actually feel you are conversing with this person, and not just some aspect of your mind? The reason I ask is because on the one occasion I conversed with a dream character in a lucid dream, I felt quite strongly aware that he wasn't real. I'm just wondering if it's like this when you meet people you actually know from real-life.

If you expect them to not seem "real" then they most likely wont be believable at all...
in other words what you think they'll be like is what you get


personally mine don't seem like a part of me at all, i could talk to them for hours and never think once about the fact that they're actually me.

I had one that was either very low level lucidity or almost lucid. I grabbbed this DC by his face and asked him what his name was. I don't remember ehat name he said. but what was wierd was when I was thinking where have I seen this guy before but the DC treated that thought like another question and he said " That 70's Show."

HAHA, classic one. Was he the guy from "that 70's show"? or was your mind just throwing up random stuff (mine does)

characters can actually be little people representing your subconcious?
so could you like, directly ask your subconcious questions?
and get answers?

It seems like many conversations with DCs in lucids, are pretty random.

The quote in my sig is from one conversation I had in an LD with a DC who was supposed to be my father.

I have read some dream journals were people had good conversations with a DC.

But more often the DC maintains its own reality and does not accept that it is a dream character.

In one dream I told a DC representing my brother "hey this is a dream" he replied, "no its not, go to sleep."

Another frequent occurrence is that the dreamer treats the DC as if they were the real person. This seems to result from lower lucidity.

DC: That's ridiculous. That's like saying I'm a monkey page![/b]

LOL, I couldn't stop laughing, it was so hilarious!!! Anyways, I've talked to DCs before (in younger childhood LDs), I've tried telling them it's a dream, but I forget their responses.

The people in my dream are totally real. That's probably why I was the only one who would want to live the rest of my live inside an LD. Sure I know it's not real, but who really cares if everything seems real.

I remember having a dream where I was trying to convine everyone that I was asleep and that I was really dreaming...I even got a character to pinch me like in the movies...it doesn't work...I eventually escaped the dream and I was really relieved when I woke up lol. So it seems dream characters don't accept the notion that they are part of a dream...I suppose that might cause them to self destruct because your mind creates a contradiction...if you know what I mean lol

The DC's in my dreams are good for..Sexual appeals (Women)

And fighting/Spontanious combustion (Men)

i would like to ask a DC questions like "where are we" or "have i met you before" etc.

Yes, you can, IF you're lucid and can remember the questions you want to ask in a dream. In many non-lucids I've had quite enlightening conversations with dream-chracters. The answers are often cryptic, and don;t come in the form of words, but, they're there, often in the ways dream chracters interact with you... I had one conversation in a lucid, my first WILD, that was... well... very enlightening. Disturbing, but enlightening...

This is a good question... got me thinking...

For me: DCs that I know in real-life, "feel" like real people, but, at the same time, they are coloured by my subconscious... it's hard to explain. I'd say they're somewhere between the two.

An example: I once talked to my mother in a lucid. She was upset, and had a lot of things to say. In the dream, she was clearly my mother... BUT at the same time, she was embodying my subconscious PERCEPTION of my mother...

I don't know whether that helps at all...
