      Creating the details

I had another lucid deam. I went to bed thinking about how it had been a long time since I had had an LD, and how I really wanted to have one...tonight. I also thought about what I wanted to do if I did have an LD. I usually like to fly, but I have been a little disappointed by the lack of details in some of my recent LDs, and I was wondering what I could do to be more observant. I fell asleep thinking about that.

      My 7th LD:

I was in a car. Jeff was beside me in the back seat, and one of the people in the front may have been another friend. We were driving on a road that winded though a canyon. We passed a place where there were two waterfalls. I looked closely at the rocks by the waterfalls. One looked just like a big Triceratops head. I mean, exactly like a triceratops head. I suddenly realized that things like that just don't happen in nature....this was a dream.

I looked around at everything. Here I was in a car again like my last memerable LD. I thought about flying. But everything around me looked so intensely real, I wondered how I could possibly make it disappear like the time before.

I looked at Jeff. I reached out and took his hand and felt his skin and touched the hairs on the back of his hand. So very real.

I touched the leather seat in the car. It was a tan color. I could feel the light shiny texture.

I touched the shiny metal door handle...and wondered how I could possibly be in a dream when this was so real. Everything was so solid...so touchable.

I looked down to see what I was wearing. I had on a grey sweatshirt. I also had on some grey sweatpants. The color of the sweatshirt was a lighter grey color and the material was much heavier than the pants.

I laughed and said to Jeff, "Why am I wearing sweatpants??" (I never wear sweatpants, plus it was the middle of summer).

He shrugged and I think I told him at this time that I was having an LD with him in it.

I'm not sure where the dream went from here. I must have lost lucidity. I remember going on to other dreams.

I found it neat that my mind remembered that my main goal was for good detail. I didn't do much in the LD, but I was able to take a good look at my surroundings which I feel is one of the more interesting things to do in an LD.

One thing that I notice is unlike real life, I'm only able to really focus on one thing at a time. I suppose that is because in real life everything is physically surrounding me. In a dream it is easier for my mind to just create one detail at a time--because nothing is actually really there.

This wasn't a very long dream, but I feel every LD is practice for better future LDs. And one of the things I feel like I've done well is to plan ahead and make a goal for what I want to improve in my LDs.

Good job, your making great progress. Just to let you know, suggesting it won't always work, it pays to practise! Great accomplishment nonetheless.

Detail has been the main theme of my LDs so far. Not much control or interesting events. The tangability becomes sort of an obstacle, it's dificult to imagine controlling the environment mentally, or overcoming fear of being harmed. I can be positive I'm dreaming, yet instincts prevail.

I had a short LD this morning. I wandered near a body of water, large, dark, and menacing like the ocean in cloudy weather (not stormy). I frequently find water like this, it crosses my mind to go in, see if I can breath and explore around. Not easy. I felt chilled approaching it, similar to how you resist entering in cold water if your cold to begin with, not helped by the intimidating impression it gave.

I'm thinking a direct approach is wrong. Sometimes the scene changes dramatically without any real effort on my part. Maybe spin to see what happens, but I ended one LD by trying that. Maybe I'm trying things that don't really fit into the dreams because they're ideas made while awake.

I think its simply fascinating how real lucid dreams can get, and there have been several topics recently commenting on it, i've had a dream where the detail was incredible, especially the taste, and its remarkable how the mind can create so much detail.
