I had my first lucid dream(s?) last thursday, about a week after I first learned about them. And...wow. -laugh-

Ironically, I didn't think I'd have any success that morning. I was tired. So rather than focus on any induction techniques, I just sortof let myself drift off. Somehow, I stayed conscious the whole time, until I was in SP. Usually, right before I enter SP, I get alot of random little muscle twitches, and they're very annoying. But at this point, I realized that...while I thought I was moving my arm back and forth, my arm wasn't moving at all.

So I raised my arms above my head, knowing my real arms were on the bed, and tried not to get excited. But when I tried to sit up, I felt stuck. The frustration snapped me out of it, so I had to relax for several minutes before trying again. This time, I tried rolling out of my body (I'd read this in an OBE article, and even though I knew I was dreaming, I thought it might help). It worked, but slowly. And while I inched my way out, a loud buzzing in my ears started. It grew louder and louder, until finally I was free, and the noise subsided. Then I tried standing. Instead, it was as if someone grabbed me by the shoulders and set my upright on my feet, without my own body moving at all. After that, I couldn't move at all. I knew where everything was in the room, but I couldn't see, either. I tried opening my eyes...only to open my actual eyes in bed.

That was...weird. When my eyes were open, I could feel both my real body and my dream body, and it was a little unnerving. So I closed my eyes. However, I still couldn't move, and frustration woke me up again. I was happy when I woke up, anyway, and went back to sleep thinking I'd try again the next morning.

However, the whole thing happened all over again. This time, though, I was able to move. Another strange thing happened, though-- even though I already knew I was dreaming, I tried pinching my nose to do a reality check. I couldn't breathe. This confused me, so I tried again. Still couldn't breathe. Then my chest felt strange, as if I couldn't control my lungs, and I began to feel as if I was suffocating. After a few panicked moments, I suddenly realized that I'd actually been trying to control my physical body again (like when I opened my eyes), and that was why I felt as if I couldn't breathe. So I relaxed, stepped out of my bedroom, and found I could breathe normally again.

Now I was excited. I remember how realistic the wood flooring looked and felt under my feet. I ran down the stairs, still amazed by the feeling, and...stepped right in my cat's hairball D: She'd had one on the stairs a few days before the dream, but we'd already cleaned it up. I tried wishing it away, which didn't work, so instead I reached behind me for a paper towel, knowing I'd get one. It worked, though it was a bit dirty already. I wiped my foot off and ran on to the back porch, wanting to see if I could walk on the pool, but I woke up as I reached the doors. Still... wow. According to my clock, the whole thing happened in about an hour.

Question! *wonders how to word it* Has anyone else here...uh...also found themselves suddenly aware of their physical bodies while dreaming? Like when I tried opening my eyes? It wasn't an entirely nice feeling, as if I was split in two.

Other than that, I wanna thank this entire forum :3 I tried a bunch of things in my dream that I'd read about on here (as I started to wake up, I remember thinking 'Spin! I have to try spinning!' but it was too late!) and it really helped. Thanks! <3

Since I started attempting to WILD about a week ago I have, on more than one occasion, accidentally been concious at the time of SP. I also remember the first time I tried to WILD feeling like I was having random muscle twitches as well, I was worried they were going to mess me up but eventually I realized they were all in my head. I still have not succeeded at WILD yet however after failing once and going to sleep I had a lucid dream anyway.

Well i've never actually becaming aware of my physical body whilst dreaming, however I think the awareness of my physical self is what's been causing me to fail. I attempt to roll out of myself as you did, only problem is, I actually do roll and after a great tingly feeling find myself awake in my own bed. However you sound much more patient than I have been, perhaps I have been trying to make it all happen too fast is why I have been failing. I will have to be more patient. Anyway congratulations again. As for anyone else having felt "split in two" I imagine so. The first time I entered SP I felt as though I fell out of my body, and for a short while I was aware of feeling that way.

I have also heard loud noises in SP. It seemed so loud it would have popped my eardrums. But it was funny that the noise was 1000s of voices yelling "your dreaming" really fast. When I try to WILD I sometimes wonder if when I feel I'm moving if I am in real life, which usually wakes me up like said above [sort of].

Yeah, I've been aware of my physical body in the lucid dream I just had. I had a false awakening but I still knew I was dreaming. So anyway, while I was on my back and staring at my palms, trying to bring the world into focus, I was also aware that my real body was lying on its stomach. It was weird. Thats why I didnt want to get up to spin; I was afraid I'd move my real body too.

Eep, late response, my computer's been weird the past few days >.o;; But thanks!

I started to WILD again thursday, but I never got much farther than rolling out of my body. I had the same problem with not being able to open my eyes (without opening my real eyes), and it kept waking me up. They may've been false awakenings, though, cos I rolled right out of my body again and again, until I was too frustrated and awake to do it anymore.

So now I just have to get past the eyes thing. I'm not sure if I'm only dreaming that I'm opening my real eyes, or if I actually am, but it -feels- real. Then again, the whole dream does, so I suppose that doesn't say much. Hrmmm. Maybe I'll try a roundabout way-- find my glasses or contacts to put on. I can always see perfectly in my dreams, but I'm actually pretty much blind without eyewear, so if I can't see in THIS dream...

Ah, well. Any advice? I hear it gets easier as it goes, so that's a relief.

Congratulations! I've never really felt my physical body while I'm dreaming. It's like the dream body takes the physical body's place or something.

Thank you~ :3 For me, it's like I'm splitting off from my main body.

It's a bit frustrating by now. I accidentally went lucid during one of my dreams this morning (which was awesome, cos it was right as I started flying with wings&#33 but I got too excited from the flying and woke up after only a few seconds. As I went back to sleep, I felt the weird tingling that meant I could roll out of my body, so I did. I was more aware and focused than the last time I did it, but...I still had problems with my eyes!

I got out of bed and tried putting on my glasses, like I said I would, but that didn't work either. After that I ended up opening my actual eyes and waking up. (This is an unrelated point, but now that I think about it...when I got out of bed in the dream, I focused on the cold wood flooring under my feet and felt better about how real it felt. Except...I have carpet in my room! *laugh* I like wood flooring better, though.)

I guess it's silly to be frustrated. I'm really...reallyreally happy I'm at least starting to have ld's, I just...reeeally want to get past the closedeyes thing. I know frustration will make it worse, but even while I was relaxed in the beginning of the dream, I still couldn't make my eyes open. Mrrr.

Ahhhh, well. I say that too often. If anyone has any suggestions, it'd be greatly appreciated :3

(...Oh, I just realized I'm past the two week period! *totters off to the adoption thread*)

Yeah, I've felt that feeling before, it is always a signal for me that I'm waking up. A dream I had a while ago that incorporates many elements you're describing went like this:
In the dream I had been in a car that had just driven over a bridge and into a lake. As the car sank, I climbed out the window and swam to the surface. As soon as I reached the surface, I became simultaneously aware of my physical body lying in bed. I remember thinking, "wtf... I'm waking up? Shit, that means that I've been asleep this whole time! Which means that this right now is a dream, and I'm waking up from it! Crap! Got to dream spin!" But it was kind of hard to spin since I was floating in the middle of a lake in the dream . So that feeling you're talking about actually caused me to become lucid for like 2 seconds before waking up, lol.

That was almost what happened in my flying dream this morning XD After I realized I was dreaming, I became aware of my sleeping body, and I couldn't figure out how to spin while flying. *laugh*

I wonder if maybe the split body feeling happens because I'm not...uh...asleep enough? All my LD's in which I rolled out of my body happened in the morning after waking up repeatedly, so maybe I'm not in a deep enough sleep. Maybe I'll try waking up earlier. *cries at the thought*
