They fluctuate, just like "normal" dreams. It can seem hazy, disconnected, fake. It can seem like a cartoon. You could be blind, have no audio, no sense of touch, etc. On the other hand it can be the most vivid, colorful, textured experience you've ever had. You could increase your visuals to a level not possible in waking life, adjusting the sharpness and zoom, changing the color etc.
There is also a degree of "extra-sensory" perception in extremely vivid lucid dream, as there can often be in a "normal" dream; which is an extra "sense" that allows you to feel your surroundings.

How "real" something is is relative. One person's idea of how 'real' something is is likely to be different than another's. But if your question is "can a lucid dream feel just like the waking world?" my answer is "yes....and then some."

      Good reply by Oneironaut!

I've had LDs far more vivid than is possible in waking life. It's really quite amazing, almost like a filter has been removed from you everyday senses. Sight, sound, smell, touch, taste, everything can be extremely keen.

Unfortunately for me at least, these are kind of rare, baybe one extra-sensory LD every couple of months. 50% of the remaining are normal sensory level, 49% are sub-sensory level.

But hey, it's like Pizza. When it's good, then it's great. When it's not so good, well, its still pretty good!

My lucid dreams' feel more real some nights than others. Last lucid dream barely felt like a dream, it felt more like a daydream were i could tell it was in my head and could feel myself in my bed.

Other dreams are more real, I feel like i'm in another world.

      So it just depends.

they feel more open and free compared to real life, for me the vision shows that the most, because you can see what is all around you in great detail, and you can also feel what is around you, and you can feel the energy of the objects around you and the energy that you are giving off, you also feel a sense of enlightenment and pride...not to mention a warm radiance around you.. so no they are not like real life they are different, just like seeker said when they are good their great and when they are normal they are still good...
