Lucid Guns

It seems like you have to be really good at control to by-pass the mechanical failures, which I'm not. I haven't noticed other devices failing so much as guns tho. Maybe because every time I tried to one it was I really needed it and so it really sucked when it didn't work. Actually I can't think of many other mechanical things I often use. Travelling in vehicles usually seems to work OK but I'm not usually driving, more like mass transport. I can write (during FA's when I think I'm recording my dream!) but that's not really mechanical.

But also, like Oneironaut said has happened to him, it can be hard to hit too, like when you're trying to run and it is like wading thru water.

So, Oneironaut and Ev: when you by-pass the mechanics of the gun (or the punch), and visualize it happening, does it just like magically happen that the person is knocked over, or does the gun seem to work right? Or does it happen so fast that you really can't tell the difference and it doesn't matter?

I used a gun in my LD just last night, I used my hand to form a gun, and the bullets come out my finger.

most of the time i just shape my hand like a gun like little kids do and shoot

I would never trust myself with a gun :sheepishgrin:

My wife complains cause i have the same problem.

Rarely use guns in LD's. I prefer to deal out the pain by hand too.

Though, in a lucid dream a couple of nights ago I was being chased by these things that were a cross between aliens and zombies or something. I got caught in an alley way and had nothing with which to defend myself. I remembered I was dreaming and simply made my hand into a gun. Simply pointed at whoever I wanted to shoot and my finger would discharge a bullet just like a real gun. It was amazing.

thats what ui usually do because regular guns kinda suck

methinks its all to do with understanding.

if you understand how an m4 works in real life, know how the cartige loads, how the firing pin works, have some sense of how it feels to fire one (even if you havent) an above all can IMAGINE all this in your head, then i would say that you would have no prob wi usin guns.

if you cant figure out how they work, your mind cant proces them properly and make them dream acurate. Jus my lil theorie on the whole 'mechanical things dont work' issue in lucids

I disagree, I used an L98 (single shot version of the SA80) when I went to marine cadets a few years back. I could take it apart, and put it back together blindfolded, but I still can't use guns in dreams.

No this is not true. I shoot IRL all the time and still my dream guns don't work. That's partly why it is so frustrating; just when I need to use a weapon as a matter of life or death (I think, in my dream), not just for fun, it won't work. It's always really a bummer. That's why I need to get that finger-shooting down.

I have a compound bow IRL too, but I never tried to use that in a dream. I guess it is not the first thing (or actually even second or third thing) I think of as a defensive weapon. Maybe I would have more luck with that.

I had the problem of a non working gun once... but One technique I found out is that if you just tell yourself that you are in a dream that YOU control. Bash the gun to the ground and it WILL work

what if it breaks? jk i definetly try that

you can always as other people mentioned deal with it hand to hand....

Or you could try phasing in more complex guns.... try out a bow and arrow then a spud gun... then a water pistol ... then a pistol etc

We once blew a hole thru a wooden shed IRL with a spud gun; it was old and rotten tho (the shed I mean.)

I don't think this will work for me; there is something about projectiles that don't seem to work. But I'll try...if the right situation comes up...
