Thread: Lucid Guns

That is something that has always happened and annoyed me with my guns in dreams (usually not lucid). They will misfire, or the bullets just fall out of the barrel, or it is like gravity is off and the bullets go up and down in weird slow trajectories, or I just never can get a good shot. I don't know why this happens; it seems to be more than the mechanical-things-don't-work-in-dreams rule. Other people have rarely been able to shoot me.

I think I have read about other people with this problem. I wonder why. Maybe we just don't think we should be shooting people, and it is strong enough to influence the dream, but I do other things I shouldn't do with no problem. And I am only trying to shoot bad people. I don't play a lot of computer games, so I don't have a lot of practice shooting people, but it seems like people who do would not have this inhibition in dreams. Maybe the reality of the dream is different than the game; I don't know but I think it is a fairly common problem.

Do other people shoot successfully? I should read some dream journals and find out I guess!

I think one thing that may be hindering you guys is that you are over thinking what the gun is. You just have to make the shape and the concept that when you fire it where it is pointing gets destroyed. It sounds like you are thinking about it in the sense that the gun is projecting the bullet and the different parts of it. Think back to when you were little did you ever pretend your hand was a gun? If you did I bet you didn't look at your hand and say to yourself what every little bit of your hand is and what it is doing, and also when you shoot it you don't think of it launching out a projectile that then flys along a predictable path to its destination no you think of it as though what you were aiming at just got shot. I usually find when I try to make things overly realistic that they come out funky.

Yeah, I have this problem all the time. You'll see if you read one of the last dreams in my DJ. When I fired it, I pulled the trigger twice, and the two bullets stuck into each other, slid out of the barrel, and dropped straight to the floor. I was like, WTF just happened, it ruined the dream, that was the main thing I wanted to do (killing spree!&#33 and I couldn't.

I don't think I've ever had a malfunction with a gun I've had while I was lucid. But, I did have my first gun malfunction in a non-lucid a few nights ago. Every time I would try to cock back the slide on an automatic pistol, the slide would come off and the entire gun would fall apart.

Yeah, there's nothing like ripping someones legs off and kicking them to death with their own feet and bitch slapping people you don't like , only to have them try to punch you back and break their fists apart.

..doesn't mean I won't pick up a Glock every now and then, though.

I've never tried guns before, I find it funner to go down the street and smack some random person on the back of the head

That's assuming anyone that has guns in their dreams doesn't use other weapons.

I've got a dream journal full of everything from guns to daggers, katanas, nunchaku, fists, feet, wtfever.

Yup, hand-to-hand melee wins, hands-down. (no pun intended. )

There is nothing better than using the mixed martial arts prowess I have in my head (that my body can't even come close to keeping up with) against a group of like 6 or 7 DCs all trying to kick the shit out of me, simultaneously.

I've got a few.

I personally have to say let the robot minions fight, there is nothing like a million robots under your command destroying the world by ripping off one limb at a time. It is a really hard thing to keep going though, usually ends really quickly for me but I feel it is worth it.

ive never tried to spawn a gun, but i did spawn a light saber in a recent lucid dream of mine:

i'm being chased by these two guys and i realize i was dreaming so i turned around to confront them. I held out my hand and thought of a lightsaber appearing. first it spawned on my had but was invisible, then it gained its sound, then i brought out the blade and it finally apeared except is was one of the fake plastic ones. It still cut peoples heads off though

Haha yeah I know what you mean In my opinion, melee > firing arms by far.

i have never made a guns in my dreams but i would like to i reckon u have to think harder about this picture the gun first in good detail go from there

I haven't used a gun in a LD.. yet.

Only one time have i ever used a gun in my dreams, and it were like shooting blanks, everything appeared to function properly, but no bullet nor damage caused.
Though i prefer my trusted Katana, which have started to pop up in non-lucids too.

You must be careful how you condition your subconscious mind... as you can never be sure when it might someday, or some drunken night, take over from you.

I often have the same problem. Guns shooting blanks or shooting astray. Or there's no ammo.

The only solution that worked for me is to shoot regardless of anything. Almost overpowering the dream. Project your desire to destroy your target rather than just point and squeeze the trigger.

But yeah, I definitely agree with Ev. It seems that bypassing the "mechanics" of getting a gun to shoot and just focusing more on the desire to connect the shot is the best way to go. Same thing with punching, for that matter. I used to have so much trouble punching because somehow the punch would get lagged in between the throw and landing. Now I don't think about the punch, mid-flight, I just visualize my fist hitting the target.

Just because you might not be able to handle yourself while you're under the influence of alcohol, it doesn't mean other people can't. Intoxication is not an excuse to stop controlling yourself.

The only thing i ever drink is cider, and getting drunk from that is extremely hard.
I've never been drunk, and never will, i'll be sure to cut out my own tongue if that ever happens.
And it did pop up in a dream of war... and i dont think war is coming to sweden any time soon, so i don't think i will mistake reality for dream, and i'm not so stupid that when i suddenly think i am dreaming, that i jump out of the window or kill random people as a reality check.
