Nobody that I know of can do that, at least not practically. If you stay up long enough (3-4 days+), you DO start to hallucinate with your eyes open--more or less dreaming while awake(ish). But control probably sucks because you'd be exhausted, and staying up that long is dangerous and impractical.

I start hallucinating with my eyes open if I'm in a dark environment.

Actually, today's dj entry is a bit relevant:

It took me two hours to fall asleep last night.

After the first hour I got insanely bored.

Still lying down in bed, I extended my arms upwards to see how long I could keep them there for. Naturally, I got bored of this in about ten minutes.

I stopped looking straight at my arms and looked kind of between them and let my mind wander. After a short time, hypnagogic imagery started to kick in.
At first, I thought my arms suddenly began to grow longer and longer. This freaked me out for a moment before I realized that my arms weren't actually growing.

I decided to see if I could make anything else interesting happen.
I found that if I stared at a point between my arms for a period of time and tried to move my eyes as little as possible my arms would eventually disappear.[/b]
I've never actually had a whole dream with my eyes open, though.

I think I've done that, I could control everything and I forgot about reality, but it wasn't very vivid. I think it happened because I was thinking about it for too long and ended up dreaming more intensly. So not entirely what you're saying.

Why is it dangerous to stay up for that long ?

Mostly because you're no longer in complete control of your body. You start to drift off at really, really bad times. I mean, as long as you're in a safe environment, nothing TOO bad can happen, but nasty falls and such are pretty much expected after two or three days without sleep.
There's also a danger because the human body isn't designed to go without sleep--if a normal person stays awake for too long, you can actually die (although that's a pretty extreme possibility--you'd likely drift off involuntarily LONG before that could happen.) Still, psychologically and phsyically, sleep deprivation is very harmful.

i have slept with my eyes open before. It wasn't for long, and i didnt fall asleep that way, but i wil describe what it felt like.

It happened several years ago at a friends house. I could see, hear, and think, but my thought was clouded. coudl nto remember touch, smell, or sight, but i WAs snoring. Since my thougth was so clouded, i didnt knwo that it was me snoring at the time, i jsut heard a very very loud ripping/grinding noise.

not particularlry fun, but an interesting experience.
*note*^ the above comment was not meant to be hurtful, nor insulting. It is just another of my cynnical observations of fact. If you happened to be offended by my logic, too bad.

go ask alice,
when shes ten feet tall

When they come for me i'll be sitting at my desk with a gun in my hand wearin a bullet proof vest
singin my my my how the time does fly when yo know your gonna die by the end of the night
