      Hi,
I am 33 years old and have been diagnosed with Narcolepsy and Cataplexy a sleeping disorder since I was 16 years old.
I can't believe that no one told me after years of having horrible nightmares and hallucinations that there is a way for me to control these and actually really enjoy all my dreams. It was only when I started looking into Lucid Dreams that I started to realise that my nightmares are not something I just have to deal with in my own way.
Retraining my Sub Conscious mind is something I am starting to get to grips with and it really works.
I try to remember as much about the bad dream as I can and then instead of me being stabbed and sliced and feeling the blood drain from my body and die. I change the ending whilst I am awake. When I have been stabbed I heal instantly which is meant to sink into my sub conscious and help control my dreams whilst I am asleep.
      It really does work.
I was extremely excited yesterday as for the first time ever I dreamt in a different way.
I was very tired yesterday and took myself off to a quiet room and closed my eyes. Within what felt like seconds someone started giving me a head massage. Which for me is one of the great things about being Narcoleptic is how real dreams feel.
I was relaxing it was great. It was actually a ghost that was giving me accupressure. She was in her 30's, Black lady who was a small time TV star in America before she had died. She was basically giving it to me to prepare myself for my dreams to come. Which I was going to learn to come to control. I had role play lessons in the dream to learn how to change my body shape. Something that I have never been able to get to grips with. When I woke up I felt amazing and full of life and bursting to tell my husband and friends. Who sometimes look at me as though I am totally mad).
It is very new to me at this stage as only been trying it for the last week.
The strange thing was whilst she was doing my body overhaul she showed me points on my wrist that I needed to work at which after looking on the internet to find out what it might mean, it is pressure points to help give up smoking, which of late have really wanted to do. Very strange.
I do feel I have been Lucid Dreaming for years but this opened up a whole new way for me to dream.
Has anyone else had something similar or have any thoughts on this.

Welcome to the forum, SilverKaren, and congrats on conquering your nightmare! Many people learn about lucid dreaming while trying to figure out ways to stop having nightmares - which is why a lot of people learn to lucid dream when they are children, who tend to have more nightmares than adults.

Thanks for your replies it's good to know it's helped other people in the same way as me. I am trying to get my friend to give it a go as she has nightmares and also suffers from depression and I think it could really help her in her waking life as well as stop the nightmares. She seems up to the challenge she just needs a lot of encouragement
