Well I suppose I should give some background on this night... it was wild as hell. This is the second time I've had a night of crazy dreams and a lucid after taking a nap during the day. I don't think it's a stretch to say that they're related. The theme of tonight was deja vu and repetition, getting stuck in a loop that would change a bit each time until it concluded.

For those who have read my other post, my latest theory is that I might be able to get a DC to come tell me I'm dreaming if I direct him to when I become lucid. The first time I tried this was a few nights ago, when I told a DC named Chris to come tell me that I'm dreaming if I don't realize. Since then, Chris hasn't come through, so I said next time I went lucid I would ask for an explanation. Well, tonight I got my chance... and, unlike Chris, this time I asked a recurrent dream character to assist me in the future. We'll see if that makes a difference. So, without further adieu, I present my 2 most interesting dreams from last night:

First, a non lucid with a crazy repetitous cycle:

      "Weird Loop"

      0/5, 3/5

Crazy stuff... I can't remember the exact order of things (i have to stop waiting so long after waking up to write in the journal). There were two loops happening in this dream; I seemed to be caught in this weird repetition that would repeat a little diffently each time. The first loop was life guarding at a pool, only to have some kids mouth off and, after I yelled at them, one would leave and return with a bulldozer that would crash through a fence and drive away. Each time, however, the bulldozer would be alittle different and it would be a different kid behind the wheel.

The other Loop was getting a ride from an indian guy who kept trying to impress me with his driving. Every time we would come to an uphill in a foresty area behind a crappy compact car, and he would try to beat him around the stop sign. Then at another intersection there would be a porsche who would be wanting to pull out but he would gun it so he couldn't go. Here's how the loop changed: The first couple of times we were in a Jeep wrangler, then in a saturn. Sometimes he would pass the compact car right at the stop sign, other times he would wait until the compact went. Sometimes the porsche would jump out ahead to his frustration, other times he would be able to beat it. The last time he told me he needed leaves for better traction and interuppted the loop by getting leaves on his tires. We made it to our destination and I found myself laying down on a very dirty carpet that had a disgusting wet spunge on it.

And here is the other. I should let you know that this was a WBTB... I got up to pee at about 9:30 and went back to sleep until 11. This occured in between.

"Another Dose of Deja Vu and Lucidity"

      4/5, 3/5

Like the other dream, I had a funky repetition. Basically I dreamt WITHIN the dream that my mom had an accident and was lying on the side of the road and that I would move her, causing her permenant damage. Then I dreamt that I just kept her still and she fully recovered. So, of course, it actually happened, and I told her to keep completely still as I went to call 911. I searched everywhere for a phone, finally finding one in this diner that was across the street (btw I didn't recognize my surroundings). I took the phone with me, only to find that, by the time I got through, the ambulances had already come and taken my mom.

So here comes the realization--this is very interesting imo.

So later on, my mom, me, my brother, and my dad (who has passed away in real life but is in the majority of my dreams) were sitting around talking about the accident. I decided to tell them about the dream premonition, and I said "interestingly enough, it's actually you who is in my dreams all the time," talking to my Dad. The minute those words left my mouth, I realized that, by that admition, this had to be a dream. Like my lucid a few days ago, I was calm and collected and took my oppurtunity to further implement my theory of getting a DC to remind me.

I turned toward my Dad and I asked him why "Chris" had failed over the last few days to tell me I was dreaming. He told me that, and I'm sorry for this, "he had a stack of eggo waffles coming out of his ass a mile long." I disgregarded this comment and asked him if he would please tell me next time I saw him that I was lucid. Unlike Chris, he told me that he would definetely do it. We'll see if he comes though! The dream soon faded after that.

I'm curious to hear where this goes. Please keep us posted!

A stack of eggos a mile long coming out of my ass would probably distract me from telling you about your state of lucidity as well. I forgive Chris. Maybe if you offered him a maple syrup enema, he'd be willing to pay more attention to your lucidity?

I'm also curious to hear further developments. I never had a DC tell me I'm dreaming, but I remember one early LD that had an interesting reaction from DCs when the question came up in my mind. I was being chased by an angry mob armed with big knives when I realized I was dreaming. I stopped running and turned to face the mob, but they were just standing there smiling like a group that got caught playing a practical joke. "Yeah, yeah, you got us."

And it looks like I'll have to switch back to english muffins until I can leggo that Eggo image. I figure fifty years will about do it.

Yeah, pretty embarassing that that was a product of my brain. I'll warn you though... lately the pattern has been a night full of super vivid dreams and lucidity followed by hardly anything the next night, for whatever reason. I'll post under this one to report what happens tonight regardless.

BTW, the next thing will be to ask a dream character, if they aren't able to tell me that I'm dreaming consistently, what they would recommend to achieve lucidity consistently. Judging by the waffle comment, it ought to be pretty interesting.

Even if nothing comes of this, though, I'm getting great practice in maintaining a clear head and objectives when I do go lucid. Usually I just fly around pointlessly.

That's funny man, and it reminds me..

This really was a landmark dream for me because it was the first time since my dad passed away (6 years ago) that I realized his existence meant I was dreaming. Considering he's in at least 50% of my dreams, that could be big.

That is a big step, and a major dreamsign to start noticing. Good luck with it.

Hope their answer doesn't involve english muffins, or my breakfasts are ruined.

Hey, like I expected, the night after wild dreaming I got absolutely nothing; barely even anything on dream recall. Just flashes. Sorry.

Well, I saw my dad last night and he failed to inform me that I was dreaming. I'm not done doing these types of experiments though; I really feel confident that I can find some sort of in-dream method to give me constant lucidity.

      I keep u posted!

I like your persistence. I wouldn't be bothered at all if it takes weeks or months to interact consistently with dream characters. Remember how we trained our mind to do rc's in dreams by doing rc's in waking life? Maybe you're training your mind to have dream characters remind you of lucidity, and that could take some time as well. I wouldn't give up on it anytime soon, and as you've pointed out, you're learning a lot about LD in general by focusing on this. It reminds me of how we teach at my school, by focusing on a few things in depth, students learn most of the general knowledge they're supposed to learn. But, they become experts on some things in the process. And, it all seems simpler because everything is centered around a few key concepts. You're ld progress is simpler because you're focusing on dc interaction. After a few months/ year, you'll know more about dc's than most of us, and you'll know most of what we all know about ld's in general. Please keep this thread running, immediate results or not!

Oh.... I plan to. Been studying my butt off for finals so I haven't had the concentration. I'm gonna get back into meditation which is the only think that's different from my life from last year when I was having SUPER vivid lucids very often.

My prediction is that I'll have a lucid tonight... I seem to be due. I usually go in cycles of a build up of weird dreams, a lucid, a night or two where I don't remember anything, and then the cycle starts again.

I think, though, if I make more progress on this I'll start a post without such a silly title.

Wow, am I getting to know my body, or what?? Nice lucid, real long but not really high on the vividity scale (although that's been a trend lately, unfortunately).

I was able to do a bit of "research," although, in general, I wasn't nearly as down to earth as I have been recently. Here is a rehasing of the account (if you are only insterested in the dream character experiment, fast forward to #5):

      1. Once again, the presence of my father triggered the lucid (although he didn't TELL me anything)

      2. I was a bit lost for things to do, despite having a plan before going to bed. Nevertheless, I went out of my way to experiment with the dream world: Really for the first time for each of these, I smelled, I tasted, and I banged my elbow, for which I felt pain.

      3. I flew (which I've done plenty of times), but I gave the power to fly to the dream characters who were with me at the time. Later my ability to fly like superman changed to "flapping power" (which I've experienced before), which is when my ability to fly is really difficult, slow, and dependant on flapping my arms.

      4. I started to lose lucidity a bit when I fought the nemesis of the dream characters, a huge african guy who was weilding this lighter that was supposedly a tremendous source of power. If I was truly lucid, I wouldn't have bothered with him, knowing this is just a stupid plot twist of the dream. But, I kicked his ass, I simply popped hte lighter out of his hand he turned into a bird and few away.

      5. I chased after him but couldn't come close to catching him with my shitty arm-flap flying. Instead, me and the other dream characters got to this platform that was hovering about 50 feet in the sky. At this point, my lucidity came back to me completely, and I remembered this experiment.

I forget exactly what I said, but it was something about the dream and going lucid and that it was good. One of them looked at me and said, "well, you were nice this time and didn't kill anyone." He was referring, of course, to my violence from a couple of weeks ago.

I told them I wanted to be lucid more regularly, and I asked them if, as dream characters, they represented the actual individuals they manifested as or if they changed with every dream depending on what I was dreaming. At this point, they all changed from my family to my friends from school. I zoomed up on the face of one of them and she said very seriously, "no, we can morph into anyone."

I asked them, all of them, to please tell me if they see me not realizing it's a dream. Before I could get an affirmation from them, I felt myself getting sucked into conciousness... The first thing that goes is my eye sight, so I just started blurting out "please! please! don't forget to tell me." Next thing I know I was face down in my bed. Even though I wanted to sleep more I got up because it marked such progress.

Well I'll keep you posted. I'm going to be returning tot he United States on Saturday, so I can imagine my life and sleep being really messed up for a bit. If I don't post, that's why.

he may not have told you but maybe since you asked him to tell you, it triggered lucidity. you know?
