Ever since I started attempting LD, I have been having strange dreams, mostly unpleasant. The first Night I started keeping a journal, I had physical pain (not in real life but in the dream) for unknown reason. Dream recall was very very good though, which I understand is a good sign (remebered three dreams with great detail in one night) The enxt night I again had some unpleasantness. I decided to give up and stopped experimenting, but since then I have had terrifying sleep paralysis, bad dreams, ans on very bad experience where I was trapped in an edless loop of false awakenings (about ten). This felt so real that it took five minutes of full wakefullness before I was sure that it wasn't another dream. I am actually afraid that I might lose sense of reality in real life and go insane. Please advise.

Is it normal to have unpleasantness when forst learning. I did have one dream where I was very lucid and even had partial control of events (gave orders to DCs and some of them were obeyed. Also did some "Star Wars" type of levitation tricks, but it was more scarey than fun.

I am really scared right now that I will be stuck in this cycle of dream problems. I'm afraid to go back to sleep. I haven't had a normal night of sleep in days.

Well, those dreams were there probably earlier, but u just didn't notice, and mabey some new apeared becous of ur fear of what might happen, and nightmers aren't that bad, they are usualy cosed by something in ur life, and u can get to know ur self better,if u know what i mean, don't be afraid of LDing,u won't go insane, when ur awaik,u don't get "an impuls"to become a dragon,of fly,in ur dream ur subconcius is the master,so that's why dreams are usualy wierd........and in real life ur in control, and i'm shure u won't try to fly out of ur window lol

well, I wasn't meaning anything that drastic, but thanks all the same. I was more thinking along the lines of just having a constant feeling of being unsure of my reality. The truth is that all of my life I have had a sense of "life soesn't seem real," or disconectedness. There's probably a psychological term for this, not that i give much of a **** about that after all the doctors I've seen. They've helped me a lot, but it seems like there diagnosis/treatment is usually as much of an educated guess as anything else.

This is what led me to seek religion and a higher reality, though I've mostly given up on this since the "higher reality' experiences I've had were, in hindsight, probably no more legitamate than a drug abusers experiences when high. it seems that how real something feels is not much of a judge of the actual realness.

I think it has to do with your real life... Maybe try to interpret some of this stuff for yourself? How often are you lucid? You should try to take control of the nightmares with a lucid dream. As dreams are caused by experience and perception, you obviosuly might have something to work out if you are having these nightmares. Maybe it is a good thing that you are facing them now and you can learn how to deal with the bad things in your dreams and real life using your dreams. What were your dreams like before you started lucid dreaming? It seems like you just brought more recall to your nightmares. Have you ever woken up before feeling really crappy? That is often the result of a forgotten night of bad dreams (sometimes).
