Okay, I think I may be a bit strange. Most people have lucid dreams after a few hours of sleep, or at least from what I've heard. However, the 4 times I've managed to have lucid dreams, they've been within the first half hour of sleep! Just last night, I fell asleep about 11:30 pm and had 2 lucid dreams and a normal dream which seemed to have lasted at least 2 or 3 hours. But, when I woke up from the 2nd lucid, I looked at the clock and it was only 12:15 am!

Am I weird or does this just happen to some people?

      This is not uncommon.
After all some techniques, WILD or HIT go directly from a waking state into a dream state.
Many feel that it takes this long to get into REM. I think this is where people tend to be misled.

As you have fallen asleep there a many instances where your conscious mind is still active. (Not fully disengaged to the subconscious.) As a result your awareness sparks your lucidity.

Ok thanks. I was just wondering because I read somewhere that people with sleeping disorders often have unusual REM patterns, including entering REM within the first minutes of sleep.

Hmm, coincidentally, I've also had 4 LD experiences, but they've all been in the last couple of hours of my sleep. Also, I can't recall any dreams from the first 3 hours of my sleep, even if I use an alarm clock to wake up.

It's not unlikely, though, that there are people who enter REM sleep very early. It could just be a rare trait, like being left-handed, so most LD tutorials advise people to only attempt to LD after 4-6 hours of sleep. It must be a pretty useful ability, though, when trying to WILD or MILD.

I can only remember one time I had a lucid dream within an hour of falling asleep at night. It was strange, I went to bed at like 11pm and had a full-on LD with great control, woke up, looked at the clock and it was only 12am. It was weird.

This is how I am minus the LD's. I dream WAY more in the early morning hours and remember much better.
      I sleep to dream.

How do you keep track of time in a dream?
