Hi all I am new and was surprised no one posted here!
So I guess I will add my experience.
I learned about lucid dreaming about 8 years ago, I always wondered what it was called when you knew you were dreaming, I have had experience with lucid dreaming since I was a kid but never knew what it was called. I remember when I was a kid and I was with a bunch of other kids and realized I was dreaming and told them I was dreaming and that when I woke up I would be gone.
But after I learned what it was about 7 years ago I attempted to control my dream, most of the time my lucid dreaming happens when I decide to take a nap through the day, this seems to be the ideal sleep situation for me that I reach lucid dreaming without effort and just all of a sudden realize I am dreaming and in the past I would kind of freak and try to wake myself up which would put me in a trapped sense of mind and be very distressful, so at this time 7 years ago, I did not try to wake myself up I just simply called for my mom which I decided I would do during the next event of lucid dreaming, and in my dream I was in my living room, (where I was taking my nap on the couch) and I walked over to the door and seen a big beautiful mountain, (ok I live in Michigan but it was nice in the dream), I turned away from the door and there was my mom (who passed many years ago) I was so excited I wanted to tell her how I was now a grandma and how happy I was, she stood there looking beautiful, and just smiling with content at me, and never said a word, but I do believe she enjoyed our meeting as much as I did!
I still tend to struggle with trying to wake myself up when I know I am dreaming and that is why I am here, I want to make the most of these experiences.

      Take Care all!!! CindySue

Hi Mystic, another Michigander! Naps are a great time to lucid dream. Glad you found this forum, see you around.

Lucid Dreaming, can be very fun and fascinating. Instead of trying to wake up,
you should let yourself have a sense of adventure, and use it as your own private
      playground.

It is also great for personal growth, you can learn a lot about yourself.
If you have not read Exploring the world of Lucid Dreaming, you should.
It has pretty much everything ther is to know on the subject.
