Thumbs up My first lucid dream

I can’t believe I’m finally saying this. I had my first lucid dream! :p

I was in the backseat behind the driver (where I always sat as a child) my parent’s old, red 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagon. (I’m sure this part comes from the topic in the “Whispering Pines” forum, “What kind of vehicles did your parent’s drive?” The door of the car was missing on my side. I said to myself “I wonder if I’m dreaming?” so I look down at my both hands to do a reality check and my right hand has six fingers on it so I said to myself “I am dreaming!” When I look up from my hands, I am lucid and the sky is bright blue and ground is deep green and I say to myself “What am I going to do?” and I think “Fly out of the car into the sky!” So I take off and immediately lose the dream!! I don’t care that I lost the dream---I’m just so excited that I realized was dreaming and did a reality check and became lucid!

I think my mistake was that I became excited and immediately wanted to do something (fly) when I probably should have taken some time to explore my surroundings and stabilize the dream.
What do you all think? What I can do to maintain lucidity longer?

YAY octoberchild!!! :bravo: I'm so happy for you!!! And as you said, it doesn't matter how brief it was.. what matters is that you realized that you were dreaming and became lucid!!

What I have been telling people is to try touching things (I mean really "feeling" them) to stabilize your dream. Get into how they feel.. are they hot, cold, smooth, rough, etc.. this often helps me remain in a dream longer.

You now have first hand knowledge that lucid dreams are possible and, armed with this knowledge, may you experience many many more!

Thanks, Clarity!! Yes, like you said, I now have first hand knowledge that lucid dreams are possible and that brief experience means the world to me! I was so excited yesterday that I repeated the dream events over in my head many times. I do realize I probably tried flying before I was ready to and I did try to spin to stabilize, but I am too inexperienced right now with any further techniques. But I am going to keep reading and practicing (I love a challenge) until I get it right! I will try your suggestion to touch things to help stabilize! Thanks so much for your reply!!
      Hooray for me!! :p

      You've done it!!!!!!

Now we can finally drag you through the top secret initiation rites to get you into the Invisible Lucid Conspiracy.

Seriously... isn't it amazing? Ride that rush - hopefully you'll have a bunch of them now. Learning how to settle yourself down and stay in the dream is the next step.

LOL!! Thanks pj! Yes, I believe going step by step is probably the way I'll have to do it, since it doesn't come naturally or easily for me. But that's ok, I'm just glad I finally "broke" through, that's the first step, and on to the next!!!!

Congrats, octoberchild! :bravo: Way to go! It's been a long time coming, eh?

Sometimes if I feel I'm not completely in control and might lose it, I stop whatever I'm doing and lean against a wall and take a couple breaths. Usually I can calm down enough, and then do whatever I want (which usually involves flying) hehe

I wouldn't worry too much about it not lasting long - it was only your first LD after all! The more it happens, the more you get used to the sensation and can try different techniques for maintaining lucidity.
