OMG!? First Full-Length Lucid (thanks to WILD)

5 days ago I came to this forum after having one of the best dreams ever and wanting to find a way to dream the same dream again. Here's the topic: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=39331 You guys were all very helpful and offered many great suggestions but unfortunately, the following night, I did not dream the same dream. The next day, I read some up a bit on lucid dreaming, RCs, and all that. I was once again really excited at the thought of being able to control my dreams. But that night; it was a complete flop. I pretty much said "screw it" to lucid dreaming and this forum. I didn't want to try any of this again.

Then today (this afternoon)... I was feeling kind of sleepy/tired and decided to take a short nap. I knew I shouldn't because I usually feel like crap for the rest of the day after I do, but I felt quite comfortable in my bed, there was a nice breeze blowing through my window, etc. so I did. Now for the first little while, it was some weird dream in a weird setting that seemed to play like a movie. Then suddenly (or I'm guessing it happened suddenly), I came to the realization that I was dreaming!! And I was like whoaa... and then I was like, hey, is this like lucid dreaming? (I thought that, didn't say it to anyone).

Then I was like, holy sh-t, I need to take advantage of this!! I was still blown away by the fact that I was in control of my actions -I KNEW I was having a lucid dream. I even thought to myself, hey, I should do an RC! The first thing that came to mind was to check my hands to see if they would transform or anything. But I stopped myself (on purpose) because I was afraid that doing an RC would wake me up!! And I wasn't giving up on my first real LD yet. Rather then tell you about the dream, I'll tell you what it felt like and what I could and couldn't do:

Firstly, it felt like being between a dream state and conciousness. Just right between them. The entire time I felt like I was JUST on the verge of waking up. It felt like if I didn't give myself enough things to do; I would then wake up. I was aware that I couldn't hit any dead ends in my dream (unless I wanted to wake up).

      What I could control:

      1. My actions and thoughts - For most of the dream, I could control what I was doing, thinking and feeling. Sometimes I forced certain emotions on myself (ex. I told myself I should be feeling a certain way at a certain time)

      What I couldn't control:

      1. The intensity of my emotions -it seemed quite dull, really (which was dissapointing).
      2. Other people's actions (unless their actions were a reaction to mine)
      3. I couldn't body-morph!! - I tried really hard; I was aware I was trying to (I was thinking morph damnit, morph). At one point I was walking through a mall and I could see my reflection in some of the windows etc. and I could tell that I hadn't morphed into anything/anyone else. But earlier on in the dream I think I did a bit of morphing although I wasn't really aware of what I looked like (I guess I just felt different or shifted from time to time between my real body and another).
      4. I didn't have any superpowers
      5. I couldn't control my setting or what people appeared in them (or what they looked like). I tried to will my brother who was walking with me to dissapear or morph into my dream girl, but it didn't happen. His face would get distored then just go back to normal.
      6. Apart from my eyesight and once in a while, my sense of touch; none of my senses worked that great. I don't remember hearing any sounds.

Anyways, at every step I felt like I was at risk of waking up. But I kept forcing myself back into my dream setting. As I said earlier, usually I wake up from a daytime nap feeling like crap, but today I felt great! I was really excited at having experienced my first full-length LD. I'm going to browse this forum a bit more because I'm definately a believer now!!

      Afterthoughts:

*My nap lasted approximately 1 hr and 20 minutes. The first 20 minutes, I don't think I was really lucid. Just before 3pm, I woke up and glanced at my clock then went back to sleep. Then from 3:00pm to almost exactly 4:00pm, I had my lucid dream (I believe). I woke up on my own around 4:00pm (which is strange because I usually oversleep if I don't set an alarm).

**I dunno if it means anything, but I took a nap with my contact lenses still in.

***My dream re-call for this particular dream was poor, I'd say. I only remember highlights of it although I knew there were some really great details (that I can't remember).

****As I was writing this I was browsing a wikipedia article on Lucid Dreaming and came across something called: Wake-initiation of lucid dreams (WILD) which is what I believe I experienced. Many times on the forum I have come across people talking about WILD and never knew what it meant. It was weird to read about it and realize it was exactly what I went through! Omg!! Psychology is amazing, this is EXACTLY what I went through!! I'M A BELIEVER HAHAHAHA!

Good Job! You seem kind of dissapointed that you didn't acheive great thing your first time around; don't be. Actually you did great! It was your first one, you thought about doing RCs, you stayed lucid, and you were concious enough to explore the world and try superpowers. Most first-LDers wake up right after they are lucid or they lose lucidty after a few moments. What you did was great. Actually, I haven't been able to really morph yet, so don't let that get you down. It takes practice, and you are off to a good start. Also, if you can't do something just by thinking it, e.g. fly, try rocket boots, or draw wings on your shadow. Good Luck!

ah ok... now that i've read the description, that sounds more accurate. (im an absolute newbie at this so i have tons more to read up on. ) i think im gonna keep trying to make these DILDs happen and hopefully work towards lucidity, now that it seems possible... im going to try a dream journal too

all in all, it was pretty exciting... and now off to my next adventure
