      My First Lucid!

Ok, I just had my first lucid dream. I remember about 4 dreams from last night, and surprisingly enough the lucid was the hardest to remember. Once I remembered a few details about it, it all came flowing back though.

I woke up in the middle of the night, I didn't intend to but I must have had to go pee or I was thirsty or something. As I dozed back I focused on telling myself "you will have a lucid dream, you will have a lucid dream." It felt like just seconds later that I saw my grandpa wearing a hat backwards, I thought that was very strange. I then realized it must have been a dream. I remember thinking to myself, "Holy SH*T YOU'RE DREAMING." Immediately some cars came flying at me and i stopped them with a rocket launcher (like the ones in Halo). I then made some plasma balls between my hands and shot them like sub-zero shoots freezing balls. I figured I'd try to feel what my reality check felt like when I actually was asleep, so I plugged my nose and started breathing -- what a great feeling after weeks of feeling dumb and trying to breathe through my nose in class.

I knew I was dreaming but wasn't as level headed as I would have been in real life. The only fun things I did were run really fast and make plasma balls. I found making the plasma balls very easy, but I couldn't teleport myself or conjure anything. It felt like the dream lasted for at least ten minutes, but I realize it was probably closer to two or three. I started reading something in my dream, but when I looked away from the page to digest what I had read, everything went black and my reality check failed, then I realized I had lost the dream.

Oh well, it was a great feeling and I hope to have many more.

First of all, welcome to DreamViews!

Our first lucids are always a great inner discovery. The sensation of being in a dream carries a lot of meaning. Congrats on your first lucid!

About the way you became lucid: since you woke up in the night, your mind could have stayed semi-conscious. Dreams come really quick after you wake up in the middle of the night, so that's fairly possible (the whole WBTB technique is based on this principle).

No matter how conscious we are in lucid dreams, they are never just like real life. That's because a lot of your dream comes from your subconscious mind, making you feel like you're not fully in control of it. But believe it, you are. It just takes a bit of cleverness to do whatever you want.

For example, in my last lucid, I was trying Dreamviews' Lucid Task of the Month, which consisted of making an animal out of water. At the time I got lucid, I was in a building, with no water around. That was no barrier for me: I used my telekinetic powers to locate a fountain just a floor down, and I didn't even mind to go down there. I used remote viewing + psychic powers to move the water and create a wolf out of it (I love wolves ). I bet that, if I went downstairs in order to do the task, I'd probably lose my focus on it and go do something else.

Another example was when I wanted to phase through a wall. I tried so hard, but I couldn't do it. so I told myself "Phasing mode ON" (read this on someone's dream journal ) and then my body became immaterial and I could phase through the wall. Dream control involves flexibility and creativity: if one way sounds hard, try it another way!

That said, I can only wish you best of luck on your next lucids!

      Wolf howls,

Saying quantum physics explains cognitive processes is just like saying geology explains jurisprudence.

Peter, congratulations on your first lucid dream!

For those new to lucid dreaming, I advise that you don't try to set the lucid world on fire your first few dreams.. don't try to do too many tricks, summon people, etc. Simply go with the flow and take it all in. Get used to what being lucid FEELS like so you can ground yourself in your dreams.. that's when the tricks/stunts can happen.

Your first few dreams simply act like a tourist in a new place.. go sightseeing and take in all the different colors and sounds. You may try to increase your vividness by confidently declaring "increase lucidity" or "clarity now" but that would be the extent of control I would recommend for beginning dreamers.

I still have to remind myself the moment I become lucid to get "grounded" in my dream (i.e., make it as lucid as it could be) instead of immediately racing to do something before I lose lucidity.

One of the tricks I use to "ground" myself is to "touch" things. By touching.. I mean really "feeling" them. Get into how they feel.. are they hot, cold, smooth, rough, etc. (this also helps me remain in the dream longer).

Just remember that "the deeper the level of lucidity.. the better your lucid experience should be".

Oh, and welcome to Dream Views!
