      First LD, after TWO YEARS!

Two years I have been at this, I was starting to think either I couldnt do it or that LDing isn't real anyway.

Ive got a dream journal with over 100 entries at this point. I have studied deeply on the subject and have tried MANY exercises. I been reading through Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming for a while now. Nothing was working, but then out of no where I was lucid for roughly 5 seconds.

A girl was following me down a street on foot, no stalking, but just taking the same path. She was watching me alot and acting very flirty. I got to this strange rock ledge that I sat on and turned around and looked at her. She walked into a house (must have been hers). A few moments later she came back out and just looked at me. Then invitingly turned around and walked back in. I followed into this bedroom but was alone. Then I just suddenly thought "this is a dream". It was weird that I just "knew" it was a dream with no reality checks or spotting something strange. I just sat there and thought "so this is a lucid dream." I noticed everything was so realistic. I saw a dresser with many family pictures on top. I walked up and grabbed two and tried to see the faces. The image was totally normal except the face has a strange smudge in it.

I then thought, "In an LD my hands should not be normal." So I looked at them and my index finger had a strange smudged swirld for a finger print. Thats when I had a false awakening and lost lucidity.

      So here were the conditions:
      I was on vacation.
It was roughly 4 in the morning.
I was sick with a cold.
      I had taken 500mg melatonin.
Before I went to bed I told myself to recognize my dreamsigns.

Hope this gives hope to those of you who have been trying without success. It took me two years but I finally got one!

Good Job! Yeah I've had about 4 LDs (some were more like hallucinations where I was pretty much awake and had no control so I don't them, but I've had 4 actal LDs). 3 of them were jsut by realizing I was dreaming and the fourth I noticed an oddity. I think being sick helps with having dreams maybe because you need better sleep and your mind is confused. Now that you know that you can have LDs I'm sure you'll have more. Do you do reality checks because if the only way you do it is by realizing it is a dream randomly, you won't have very many (which could explain my 6 month dry spell). I should really do more RCs (does RC) that way I can have more lucids (forgets about RCs and searches for more Dream Theater videos:p). Anyway good job and good luck.

      Welcome to the party!

Pretty fun to find out that they really do exist, isn't it?

Hopefully this is the first of many. And hopefully being sick isn't necessary! I don't think it will be, now that you've got a good start.

DUDE? You MUST mean 500mcg (micrograms), right?
Otherwise that'd be a MASSIVE overdose, when 3-6mg (milligrams) is "the norm" (some of us have even gone as far as 15mg.. but 500 would be carazy!)

WhiteUnit, I so appreciate your posting this! We have members who cry about not having a lucid dream after one or two weeks of trying.. hopefully your post will help put things into perspective for them.

I am soo happy for you and may your next lucid come soon as you've earned it!

Yes your right, I just read the bottle. 500mcg

      Clairity:

Yeah I never know why I couldn't, but if figured if it was so hard for me to have one, I would have extra good ones when I got there. =D

congratulations! Isn't it strange, that after all the reality checks and watching for dreamsigns. You then just suddenly know you are dreaming without needing anything to trigger it. That happens to me quite often as well.

There's hope for me after all. I've been trying for a little over a year now. I'm never going to give up, though. Maybe I should stop staying up so late.

      300th post!

      Hey, congratulations WhiteUnit!

I've heard that sometimes if you try too much, relentlessly, it's harder to get a lucid dream...though I've never heard of a dry spell lasting two years!

Anyway, it's great you got an LD! Let's hope it continues!
