Woo! That is a reality check.

I am used to performing about 5-6 reality checks a day on average. I check a clock or do some other reality proving action to find out that I am in fact awake.
OK. well last night I was sitting in my room folding cloths. I then turned on my computer and shut of the light. Then I turned of the TV. My computer's screen saver has " am I dreaming", on it. I looked at the screen and decided to do a reality check. HOLY CRAP! I was dreaming. Now that was a wild feeling. I just sat there Lucid in awe that I was dreaming. While that whole time I thought I was performing ordinary concious tasks.
      It was cool.

one question : you actually turned off the light using light switch?

I remember a couple similar experiences - I'm going to the bathroom,

ABSOLUTELY knowing it's reality. Light switch doesnt work. I feel like WTF?

Light bulb must be out, but let me perform a RC just to be sure...

I'm going to the kitchen, still knowing it's reality... Quick glance at the

clock on a microwave - WHOA! numbers jump all over the place...

NEVER assume you are in reality...

ya, that's a good idea for having a screen saver say sumthing. i just changed my screen saver after hearing this. is says: "Are You Dreaming??" in that scrolling text across the screen. it's called Marquee or sumthing like that...

Never be so quick to determine that you are dreaming, though.

      One of my experiences:

I wake up in an ambulance. Well, it's not that hard to determine that I must be dreaming, after all, I was just sleeping and now I'm in an ambulance. I look around. Ha. Stupid mind. As if thered be all this equipent in an ambulance. The view outside the window isn't convincing either, just an endless stream of blurred treetops. Hardly original.

      Me: "Where am I?"

Paramedic: "You're in an ambulance. Where going to take you to hospital."

Me: "Nah, nah. This isn't real. Take me back to (my hometown)."

Paramedic: "We need to go to hospital"

Me: "No, go back to (my hometown)"

      Paramedic: "Just lay still"

Giving up with the 'dream' paramedic, I try to stand up. The bastards have strapped me down. They don't do that in real life, I've never seen it in ER or Casualty. It's just some cruel plot twist.

I just lay still, waiting for the dream to pan out. I'm to tired to fly or anything.

5 minutes later I learnt that I had had a grand mal seizure straight after waking up, and the paramedics had strapped me down for they're own safety. And needless to say, it wasn't a dream.

Thank god I didn't embarass myself further.

I would think most paramedics are quite forgiving under those situations. Thay have probably seen it all. - Shock - Paranoya - delusions- etc.
Either way that is a pretty crazy expieriance.
      Do you still have siezures?

I've only had one, about 4 weeks ago. I'm getting diagnosed on Thursday. Probably epilepsy but you never know.

Thanks for your sympathy brian but it's not that bad, I've heard of people who have 80 seizures a day, 1 in 10 weeks sounds a bit different after hearing that.

      Weirdest Ever

I fall asleep at my friends on the living room floor. It's a railroad apt... straight back to the bathroom. I wake up and go into the bathroom to find that my mouth is bloody and my teeth are falling out. I start to freak then realize that this can't be real. (I've had teeth dreams for years). So I tell myself to wake up in order to get out of the nightmare. I wake up in the same spot on the livingroom floor. I'm so happy and I go into the bathroom only to find that my teeth are still crumbling and bleeding. This time I'm not that upset. I stare at myself and again tell myself to wake up. I'm actually annoyed and go back into the living room and lay back down, still telling myself that it's just a dream and to wake up. Then I wake up and do the same walk again to the bathroom. This time I'm actually awake. I go to the bathroom and then go back to bed. So freaky. I've had lucid dreams for years but never like that.

Thats why it's good to do a Hand RC.

I can't imagine any realistic scenario where I would wake up having 9 fingers and it not be a dream!

Maybe I better do more than one type of RC to be sure I am Lucid - there could be some embarassing moments if you weren't actually Lucid!

I had a very similar moment recently. I was 100% sure I was awake, but did a reality check because the lights were off in the house. I looked at my hands, but they looked normal. Then I looked really hard at them, moving them around a bit, and there was an extra finger in there! It was still hard to believe I was not awake, because everything was so real. That feeling is quite bewildering!
