I don't know if this was a lucid dream! :'(

I always have my alarm set for 4:30, and when it goes off, I turn it off, then think about lucid dreaming. Then I usually attempt a HILD, which never seems to work any more (I've only had 1 LD, and it was a HILD). Anyway, the HILD wasn't successful, and I ended up just falling asleep. The next thing I know I'm dreaming that I want to have a LD. I remember having a plan of taking a big stick of red licorice to bed (in my dream) and then if I saw that in my dreams dream I would know I'm dreaming... confusing I know. Anyway, I saw the licorice in my dreams dream and asked myself, "Am I dreaming?" and I found out I was... though, to my knowledge I didn't have control.

Would you say that that was a fake LD, so to speak? I woke up after having that dream, and I could remember a fair bit of it. I'm presuming that it was just a dream about me having a LD, but I could be wrong...

      Any ideas?

You know, I've always said that dreaming about being lucid was impossible, but then a few nights ago I actually did that. Being lucid is being aware that you are dreaming, so I think only you can answer that question.

Rule of thumb if your not sure, its more than likely a Fake LD but as Death-Wuad said only you can be sure. It could be you became slightly lucid for a very short time after the realisation but immediately lost lucidity.

Just remember, you don't have to have control for it to be a lucid dream. The fact that you realized you were dreaming seems to indicate lucidity at some level.
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

      Yeah, ok...

It just seemed strange was all. I remember shouting "Increase Lucidity!", but I'm pretty sure that wasn't me... so to speak. Lucid dreams are crazy...

      Thanks for your help!
