      That ALWAYS happens to me!

Whenever I am trying to run...especially when I am trying to run away from something/somebody... it feels like my legs are made out of concrete or something. I think it's pretty common.

Yes, this if fairly common, and I'm not really sure why.

Scientifically, I believe it may have to deal with the fact that any adrenal or neurotransmitters involved in the endocrine system or adrenaline are active during REM sleep. Also that proprioception is typically "off" during REM sleep, thus, you do not really feel your legs at the time anyway which causes a residual effect on your dreaming in the fact that you may not feel your legs at all at the time. This is similar to when people loose their legs in wars and still feel as though they have them as the proprioception involved in the somatosensory cortex to keep tabs on the legs are still active (namely the cerebellum).

      I'm not exactly sure..

Psychologically, it could interpret to mean that you do not feel you are able to sufficiently escape from a stressful situation, or gradually doing so.

That used to always happen to me. Sometimes I couldn't even walk cause my legs felt heavy. But I always think of it as getting used to a new world where the feeling of things is different. You'll get used to it and be running at blazing speed in no time!

I had this sometimes. I think it was always when someone dangerous was chasing me, and that coupled with my panic made me imagine that I couldn't run.

And O'nus of course has a couple of great ideas.

Yes try hitting someone, it's like, hard as you can but is a worthless punch, like a little back rubbish lol

It happens to me all the time, I can't remember one incidence where when I was dreaming I ran or hit fast or hard.

try finding a door or mirror, and changing the setting of your dream so you aren't forced to run anymore...? i don't know if that really helps...but it's all i could really think of...

i dont know if this is happens for everyone else, but everytime i run, and figure out that im not really going anywhere fast, I start to run backwards and i can run much faster this way. it's ALWAYS been like this.

      does anybody know why?

Hehe... dunno about nightowl's case (sorry)... but I know why slow mo happens in the other situations...

In explanation, first remember that dreams are all about free, uninhibited associations. In other words, it draws from your beliefs, fears and worries.
If you are trying to punch someone, but it feels like being underwater? Its a fear of being beaten up in return, and not being able to defend yourself. If its when someone is chasing you, same sort of fear.

Its like any other nightmare, but a little toned down.
You need to confront the reason for it ... be creative.. defeat it.
Using shortcuts works well for this:
Eg. if you need to run fast, put on magic shoes, or a jetpack, take 'quicksilver pills', 'superstrength pills' whatever... in other words make a reason for your abilities to increase.
Then look at yourself going so fast and say 'wow... this is all in my mind, so this jetpack(whatever) isnt actually doing it - its me!'

That way you can overcome it in your dreams, and overcome the fears in real life too (seems to carry over - due to the closeness to a state of self hypnosis when in an LD)

For me it's more like an immense force slowing me down... not an immense weight...

i havnt had many LD's but one thing i did find is that anything i could do, i could do without any thing stopping me, i punched a whole load of things, but not people just walls and tables ect.
      i will try running soon.
I guess people are not ready for the whole new world that awaits them.

Remus, man that happens to me all the time. I haven't really realized this untill now, it's like I just now remember all of these dreams of where I'm running in a race or something. I try to run and I fall behind, I don't understand why, so I concentrate on my legs. They seem to run really slow and wide, so, for some reason, I pick up speed be doing kind of a hop. I float for a bit in the air, while my legs are still in running motion, then I land and gain just as much ground as I would normally. It's like the momentum of me being in the air all of a sudden makes me run faster. Then I slow down, and have to do it again...frequently.
