      My 1st Experience

Hi everyone, this is my first post here, but have been reading different messages on here for a few days. Anyway, I've allways been good at remembering my dreams in the morning, even if they are a bit twisted half the time, and when I found ths site, I though I had to give it a try.

Well last night I wasn't sleeping too well, I'd been out for a meal and a few drinks in town for a mates birthday, and was feeling quite bloated once I got home. I'd already had about 3 or 4 dreams through the night and made a note of them upon waking, then about 6am I woke up as I needed the loo, and when fell asleep after I managed my first Lucid experience.

I'm not so sure as to how the dream started out, or to be honest what triggered off me realising I was dreaming. All I remember was that I was on the roof of a building and suddenly said to myself, this is a dream. After that I sort of paniced a bit as I wasn't sure what to do. Then I realised there was a door on the roof I could go though. The problem was that once I went through the door, there was a elevator, but when I pressed the button to call the lift if didn't work. Then I started feeling as if I was going to wake up, but couldn't stop myself.

The strange thing after that was that I woke up (or so I thought), and made a note of what had just happened. Then a bit later I woke up again and realised i'd dreampt my previous waking. Is that a common experience?

Anyhow, If I manage it again tonight I'll try calming myself down a little, and hopefully make it last a bit longer.

      All the best

      Paul

      welcome paul!

yes, what you had is called a false awakening. those happen to many people in LDs. when you start to feel the dream fading you can do a couple different things to prolong it. one technique is spinning, spin around like a top and focus on staying in the dream. or you can look at your hand and focus on it. basically anything that keeps you focused on the dream. many times when you do this you will have a false awakening.

its a good idea to do a RC(reality check) when you wake up. such as looking at a clock, looking away, then back again. if the time changed you are dreaming. there are many different RCs that work and some work better than others for different people.

btw congrats on your first LD!

Congrats on your first LD and welcome to dreamviews paul.

The lift not working is quite a common thing since most electrical things never work properly in dreams for some reason. It not working most likely made you a bit confused and caused the end of the dream. Also if you have bit of alcohol in your system it can make your dreams a bit more unstable (not to mention crazy) than they would usually be.

Anyway your past the hardest part now so just keep at it and the rewards will come!

False awakenings are pretty common for lucid dreamers. Also electrical devices have a hard time working in dreams too which could explain why the elevator didn't work. But in any case, congrats on your first LD!!!!

congratulations on the lucid, it sounds like your dream wasn't the most vivid in the world... but that could be part of the alcohol influence. keep it up, excited to see what kinda dreams you have without the drinks pulling you down.
