      Dying in a lucid dream

About an hour ago I had a very disturbing lucid dream after about 3 hours of sleep. I've had quite a lot of lucid dreams when I was young, but that was only just after I went to bed.

The dream started (or at least what I remember of it) when I'm standing next to my brother's bed (even though I don't remember seeing his face, I for some reason have a strong feeling it was him), but at that time it was still quite vague.

Then all of the sudden the dream seemed very real. When I turned my head I found myself looking in the mirror, and I saw a woman's face (I'm a male). Then I (still with the woman's face) see myself saying "I forfeit", and the room starts turning darker as I'm pulled outside of my body. I then see myself falling on the bed. At that time it felt like I had to use all my energy to stay alive which made me want to scream, and that's when I woke up with a very rapid and strong heartbeat.

I was pretty shocked becuase of this, so I decided to look for a forum about dreaming, just to share this with someone, so thank you for making that possible.

If you could give me any insight of why this would happen it'd be very welcome.

Just to clarify, you said this was a lucid dream,; i.e., you were aware in the dream that it was a dream and it was being created by your own sleeping mind? Based on your description, it sounds like it was simply a very vivid dream.

I haven't had many dreams in which I've died, and the ones that I have had involve something killing me, not just... getting sucked out of existence. It sounds like a very unpleasant experience, and not one I'd like to go through myself.

To the people in charge of Tasks of the Month: how about death as an advanced lucid task? Cause yourself to die in some form, and report what happens afterwards.

The dream started out vividly, but as soon as I saw a woman's face in the mirror I knew I was dreaming. But the idea of dying and the feeling it gave me really got my mind off the fact that I was dreaming. It all happened so suddenly, and I didn't have time to take control over my dream.

I had a dream similar to this. I felt like I was sinking into death. I knew it was a dream, but I wasn't sure if I was really dying -- like my body in bed, or what. So fought like hell to stay alive. Scared the crap out of me! I'm not sure what it was.

I've had other dreams where I died, usually it wakes me up or just forces another dream to start.
