I don't believe in dream guides

First a little background information. I have been actively lucid dreaming on and off for the past three years, and having random lucid dreams for several years before. After mastering the art of flight in dreams I decided to take on other, more obscure ventures. My first was to take a bunch of LSD and see what the effects would be. I first attempted this when successfully going into a wild. I imagined that a bag of acid blotter paper would be in my pocket when I reached in, and sure enough it was there. I proceeded to take all of the acid, probably about 50 hits, and actually tripped for about three seconds. I tried this several times more in other lucid dreams with similar results. However, these results were completely unsatisfying to me; as I long to reach much deeper within my own psyche. I started reading forum posts about meeting my dream character, and decided to give it a try. I will spare the details of each ld mostly because I cannot remember all but the most recent ones in detail, but my strategy has been to ask the most interesting or wierd looking dc if they are my dream guide. I have had about 6 or 7 lucid dreams in which I have done this and in each on the first person I ask always responds in the affirmative. I normally get excited at the prospect of a dream guide helping me along my way to self-actualization, however the dream guides never seem to show me anything of worth. I wonder if for some reason all of my dream characters respond in the affirmative to this question as default. They seem very unintelligent, and I am starting to lose faith in my ability to learn anything new of worth from my lucid dream characters. I hope that someone who is far more experienced in dreaming can give me insight to my problems, because I am now very skeptical if a dream guide exists for me.

I don't have a set dream guide. Instead I'll occasionally get a very smart and helpful DC, usually when I'm confronting problems in my waking life. Sometimes I've used autosuggestion to help me have the chance to talk to my subconscious about the problem.

Personally, I think that most people don't need a dream guide all the time. And really, I'd get boored if a wise and serious DC showed up in all my LDs because usually I just want to goof off or...erm...you know.

Instead of expecting a dream guide try just asking to talk to a representative of your subconscious. In my dreams the nearest DC usually come up and asks me what I want. Talk to it then ask it what you can do for your subconscious. Often the answer to this question will be more helpful and interesting than the other answers! Expect, deep down, that your subconscious wants to talk to you and help you out. Expect when that DC come up it will be intelligent and helpful. Sometimes your subc. might be mad at you and tell you this!

Excellent, I will try that. I suppose that is really all I am going for anyway. That is, a character manifestation of my subconcious. I have just always had bad luck in that my "dream guides" have been idiots. I suppose a little more forethought before manifesting the dream character wouldn't hurt. Thanks for the reply!

I don't believe in them either, but it sounds like you are already setting up the standard that they are incapable of appearing as rational, intelligent beings. If you get rid of that notion then they will probably appear quite sane Which to me isn't a DG but just a nice DC

I have myself a dream-guide that I found about a year or so ago. Hopefully you know that a dream-guide is mostly a re-occuring DC, who often has vast knowledge.

It is common for DC's to reply yes even if it is not the real answer. This is what it seems like you are experiencing. When you find your DG you will know It's not an ordinary DC.
