      First LD (DILD)

For a few nights before last, my dreams had been showing new characteristics, such as moments I would just stop in a dream and examine something, and think "This looks so real" or "This is very detailed". However, I never became lucid during those times. But last night, I finally did.

It started out that I was being escorted through a strange building. (Not like, secret service or anything, but more like a tour group.) I was walking along, staring at the carpet, which was blue, and had a rough texture, when it dawned on me. I am dreaming! At this point, I was no longer walking, but staring at the wall to my right. I decided to do a reality check, but I only did one. I pinched my self, and oddly enough, I felt the pain. I knew I was dreaming, despite that, because I thought "I don't remember waking up, or getting to this point, I have to be dreaming." I should have tried the nose breathing technique, as well as stay put and try and stabilize the dream. But no, I decide to continue outside. As I step outside of the building, I turn around and notice that the door is closed behind me. It was metal, a light tan color. It also had a bar going across it that you push to open. I open it (not sure why) and there are 5-6 people behind it. I tell them "Hey, guys, I'm dreaming right now", and the guy closest to the door even agree's and says "Yeah, you are". The rest of them, however, act like idiots, and say "Oh, it's you birthday?" and they seem to be trying to distract me, so I decide to move on. I walked off, and tried to see if I could make things appear, but no such luck. Then I woke up, or at least I thought I had. It was false awakening. I was with my 3rd mod class, and we were at a lake, I assume trying to clean it (Environmental Problems class :p). I was no longer lucid, but I still remember telling people in it that I had a lucid dream, but didn't catch on >.< However, I woke up a while after.

This night, the Lucid was my 2nd dream. I usually go to bed at 11-12 p.m.
and have an alarm go off at like 5 a.m. and another at 7:00 a.m. (for school).
Before bed that night, I had some cheddar (Tryptophan) and a lot of Orange Juice. Too much in fact, I was extremely dizzy while trying to get to bed.

Congratulations, sounds like you're really making progress - better than I am. The pinch test isn't really recommended as you probably know.

The part where you were at the lake telling others that you'd had a lucid dream when you were no longer lucid is just like one of the anecdotes in Stephen LeBerge's book.

My dad always tells me to eat cheese and pickled onions before bed to instigate dreams.

I suppose I was somewhat lucky this time, since even after the pinch test, I knew I was dreaming. It was like I immediately recognized the feeling of dreaming, and there was no need for a reality check.

Yeah, I had been looking at what foods helped for lucid dreaming, and basically any actual fruit drink can help, bananas for B6, Cheese was tryptophan, along with turkey. I haven't heard pickled onions mentioned before though (until now that is :p)

I have only been trying to LD for a month and 2 days, so I'm hoping to make more progress shortly.

The pickled onions just seem to work for him - but it's probably just an old wives tale.
I had cheese, biscuits, chutney and apple juice before bed the other night and had lots of dreams.

I'd been trying to LD for about the same amount of time but have just been losing sleep over it lately - waking to an alarm at 4 or 5am then trying to concentrate on dreaming but I just end up staying awake for the rest of the morning.

The only LD I've ever had was about 15 or so years ago when I just spontaneously had an unbelievably real but short dream. I think I'm trying too hard at the moment.

I'm half way through the book 'Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming' which has lots of useful advice I'm trying to put into practice.
